The Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns are scheduled to square off on TNT tonight in a pivotal game in terms of playoff implications.

The Suns are in the midst of a late-season collapse, having lost six straight and opened as six-point underdogs at home. On the other end, the Warriors are coming off a decisive loss to the young and feisty Houston Rockets this past Sunday, where superstar Steph Curry was held to just three points.

Continue reading below on what you can expect in tonight’s matchup.

Counting on the Suns in any capacity has been a huge letdown for bettors this past season, as Phoenix currently holds the second-worst records in terms of win % against the spread (covering just 37% of the time).

Additionally, it has been their defense that has really been lackluster, ranking 28th in defensive efficiency. Not only do the Suns lack the necessary athleticism and youth on the perimeter, but they lack any disruptor or rim protector in the middle. Basically, it is a team that is slow, old and doesn’t have a true shot blocker.

However, if there was a time where they needed to elevate their play on the defensive end, it would be tonight. Surprisingly, the Suns are 2-1 against the Warriors this year, holding them to 105 points or less in two of their matchups.

Furthermore, Phoenix is 2.5 games behind Dallas for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament, demonstrating that tonight is a must-win.

On the other end, the Warriors are currently slotted as the sixth seed in a crowded landscape in the Western Conference Playoff picture.

Tonight’s atmosphere should have the feel of a playoff game, and each team has had plenty of rest heading into the final week of the regular season. I expect each team to bring a lot of intensity on the defensive end of the floor. It also doesn’t hurt that each team is in the bottom half of the NBA in terms of pace.

Phoenix may have the psychological edge in terms of motivation, but Golden State also has plenty at stake. Instead, let’s look towards the under here.
