NBA: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Orlando Magic Preview, Prediction 

The Memphis Grizzlies (36-19) square off with the host Orlando Magic (28-29) on Friday night (7 p.m. ET). 

This is the second game of a back-to-back for both teams. 

The Grizzlies surrendered 50 points in the second quarter and fell 127-113 at the Indiana Pacers. Ja Morant had an off-shooting performance, going 4-for-15 and also committing five turnovers. 

The Magic defeated the host Atlanta Hawks 114-108 as Paolo Banchero tallied 36 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. 

This has the makings of a defensive slugfest between two physical squads.

Interestingly, the Grizzlies are seventh in defensive rating (111.1) but 23rd in points per game allowed (116.0). Meanwhile, the Magic are second in points per game allowed (105.5) and third in defensive rating (108.7). 

Whoever controls the tempo will make a big difference in the outcome.

Led by the frenetic Morant, the run-and-gun Grizzlies lead the league in pace (104.49). The Grizzlies are averaging 120.7 points in their last 10 games. 

Jaren Jackson Jr. (22.9 points, 1.6 blocks) is coming off his second All-Star appearance and will be a load to handle on both ends for the Magic. 

Banchero is super athletic but the methodical Magic prefer to slow it down, ranking second to last in pace (96.67). The Magic are also 29th in true shooting percentage (54.2). 

The Grizzlies defeated the visiting Magic 124-111 on Oct. 26. 

Morant struggled from the floor but finished with a double-double (16 points, 10 assists). Santi Aldama scored a team-high 22 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. 

This time around, the Grizzlies have to contain Franz Wagner, who led all scorers with 23 points in the first meeting.  

The Grizzlies are favored by 3.5 points and the total is set for 224.5 at bet365. For the moneyline, it’s -160 Grizzlies and +135 Magic. 

Road back-to-backs are challenging. The Grizzlies will put together a respectable first half but run out of steam after halftime. The Magic will cover the spread and get the victory to help their playoff push in the Eastern Conference.
