Tonight, NBA fans can tune into the new-look Los Angeles Lakers, who will play host against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Crypto.com Arena. 

Each of these teams are coming off two of the more emotional wins of the season as Luka Doncic beat his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, in a revenge spot this past Wednesday, while the Minnesota Timberwolves overcame a 16-point deficit with just a few minutes left to beat the league’s best, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in overtime.

This will be the final of four meetings between these two teams. Minnesota leads the season series 2-1, but it’s tough to put too much stock into any of the first three meetings without Luka Doncic in any of them.

This game in particular has huge seeding implications as the Lakers are currently first in the Pacific Division and stand as the 4-seed in the West, while Minnesota is just 4.5 games behind them. However, Minnesota is currently slotted in the NBA’s play-in tournament as the 7-seed.

After suffering two disappointing losses before the All-Star break, the Lakers have since won three straight, two of which came against the Denver Nuggets and the Mavs. Doncic is coming off his best game in the purple and gold as he finished with his first triple-double on his new squad. 

For Minnesota, it is crucial to monitor the injury report here. Donte DiVicenzo and Julius Randle have each missed considerable time, but are game-time decisions in this one. Additionally, Rudy Gobert has recently been sidelined with a back injury but could be eyeing a return in this one. 

Gobert and Randle’s potential returns could loom large in this one as LA lacks much size and talent in their frontcourt.

However, coming off two emotional wins, these teams may be in line for a bit of a letdown. Instead of picking a side, we’re going with a total. Don’t be surprised if these teams come out really lethargic, especially considering Minnesota flying across the country.
