NBA: New York Knicks at Los Angeles Lakers: Pick & Prediction

NBA: New York Knicks at Los Angeles Lakers: Pick & Prediction

For late-night TNT, NBA fans can tune into two of the top teams in their respective conferences in the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.

These two are arguably the two biggest markets in the league and have been a central topic in NBA circles as each has retooled its roster to potential contenders. The Knicks and Lakers currently hold the 5th and 6th best odds to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy in June.

The Knicks made a huge splash this summer by acquiring Karl Anthony-Towns to an already strong core, and he has certainly held up his end of the bargain, ranking second in the NBA in rebounds per game.

On the other side, the Lakers have been the talk of the Association since they acquired Luka Doncic in one of the most shocking moves in NBA history. After a rough few games in his transition to the Purple and Gold, Doncic is hitting his stride. It all started on February 25 when Luka posted a triple-double after his former squad, the Dallas Mavericks, which helped kickstart a current five-game winning streak.

This one has all the makings of a barn burner. Check out our in-depth preview and prediction below of what should be a great game.

NYK @ LAL Odds

The story for the Knicks this 2024-25 season has been that they cannot seem to play up to the tough competition. Since the All-Star break, the Knicks have suffered decisive losses at the hands of the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and most recently, the new-look Golden State Warriors.

The Knicks will look to turn around that narrative tonight with a potentially exploitable matchup in the Lakers and their perimeter defense. Jalen Brunson and co. should have advantages; however, the defensive presence of Jaxson Hayes has been noteworthy since the Lakers’ shakeup:

Hayes has provided elite rim protection for LA; Hayes versus KAT down-low should be a great back-and-forth matchup to watch out for.

After winning five straight, LA’s price is at its highest. With the Knicks’ decline since the All-Star break, it’s tough to buy into them for this matchup. So, instead we’ll look towards a player prop.

For this one, we’re targeting the King himself, LeBron James. Since the acquisition of Doncic, James has happily taken some of the load off on offense, especially in terms of playmaking. At certain points, LeBron can now play off the ball, and take advantage of the gravity Doncic creates.

James has happily thrived in this role with this score-first mentality, including scoring outputs of 25+ in 5 of his last 6,with games of 34 and 33 in that stretch. Moreover, without Anthony Davis in the fold, James has been able to scoop up many more rebounding opportunities.

With Anunoby questionable in this one and Josh Hart playing hurt, James has a great spot to shine as a scorer and on the boards.

PICK: LEBRON JAMES OVER 34.5 POINTS & REBOUNDS
