NBA: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Detroit Pistons Preview, Prediction

The Detroit Pistons (25-26) will aim to get back to .500 when they host the Philadelphia 76ers (20-30) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Pistons are hoping to snap a two-game losing streak, with both defeats at home vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks

As they continue their playoff push, the seventh place Pistons acquired guard Dennis Schroder (game-time decision) as a component of the overall Jimmy Butler trade.

The Pistons are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

Even though the Pistons are struggling, the 76ers will possibly have to contend with first-time All-Star Cade Cunningham (25.6 points, 9.4 assists, 6.3 rebounds). Cunningham (right ankle sprain) is questionable.

Meanwhile, the 76ers are coming off a 108-101 home loss to the Miami Heat. The 76ers are 5-5 in their last 10 games and currently one spot out of the play-in at 11th in the Eastern Conference.

Prior to the NBA trade deadline, some of the 76ers' moves includes acquiring Quentin Grimes and Jared Butler while dealing away Caleb Martin, KJ Martin, and Reggie Jackson.

Former NBA MVP Joel Embiid returns to the lineup for the 76ers. It’s a vital boost for the 76ers’ frontcourt because Andre Drummond (left toe) is doubtful and Guerschon Yabusele (right knee soreness) is questionable.

While guard Tyrese Maxey (27.9 points, 6.2 assists) is having another excellent season, the 76ers are 12-24 without Embiid this season. However, the 76ers are 8-3 this season when the dynamic duo are both in the lineup.

The teams split the first two meetings this season.

The visiting Pistons beat the 76ers 105-95 on Oct. 30. Jaden Ivy led the Pistons with 23 points while Cunningham went for 22 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

In the last outing, the 76ers defeated the host Pistons 111-96 on Nov. 30. Maxey finished with 28 points, six assists, and two steals.

The Pistons are a middle of the pack offense but possibly without the versatile Cunningham they won't be able to exploit the 76ers’ porous defense. The 76ers are 23rd in defensive rating (114.9).

The Pistons will have their hands full against Embiid. But 21-year-old center Jalen Duran (10.7 points, 10.0 rebounds) will hold his own.

The 76ers are favored by 4.5 points and the spread is set for 226.5 at bet365. For the moneyline, it’s -185 for the 76ers and +155 for the Pistons.

The return of Embiid will strengthen the 76ers but even if Cunningham doesn't play the Pistons will still cover the spread.

PICK: Pistons + 4.5
