NBA: Spurs at Celtics: Pick & Prediction

NBA: Spurs at Celtics: Pick & Prediction

The Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs will battle tonight at TD Garden, home of the defending NBA Champions.

This will be the first matchup of the year between these two: the Spurs have been a focus of NBA headlines for the past few weeks after the acquisition of star guard De'Aaron Fox. The tandem of Fox and young superstar Victor Wembanyama gives San Antonio a formidable duo that can contend for a potential play-in berth a year after finishing with one of the worst five records in the NBA.

On the other end, the Celtics are looking to repeat as NBA champs - led by All-Stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Boston has one of the more complete starting lineups in the Association.

However, Boston will be without Swiss Army knife, Jrue Holiday, in this one while Brown is a game-time decision. San Antonio will be at full strength. Be sure to check for more injury updates closer to tip-off.

Fans can tune into this highly-contested matchup on ESPN at 7:30 PM EST.

Let's check out the odds and our preview below:

SAS @ BOS Odds

The Celtics are coming into this one as one of the league's hottest teams, having won six of their last seven. Boston is currently 5.5 games back of Cleveland for the top seed in the East. In addition, Boston is currently tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder as the odds-on favorite to win the NBA championship.

The Celtics come into this one as an 8.5 point favorite against a surging Spurs team that is trying to inch into the NBA play-in picture.

The Spurs are currently 3 games behind the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings for the 10-seed in the Western Conference.

Despite the Celtics' relative dominance, they've struggled to cover spreads at the same clip as they have an underwhelming record of 22-31-1 against the spread - they've especially struggled to protect home court with just a 9-17-1 record ATS.

The Celtics should be able to get the win here, but this Celtics team has a habit of playing with its food against lesser opponents. With Fox in the fold, the Spurs have the high-end talent to keep things competitive with a team as good as Boston.

Although the Spurs are just 2-2 since the Fox addition, including a loss to the lowly Charlotte Hornets, the Spurs rank 9th in offensive efficiency in that span via Action Network.
