Toronto Raptors vs. Philadelphia 76ers Predictions

After finishing 12th in the East with a record of 27-45 SU last year, Toronto bounced back with a surprisingly strong start to this season, as the Raptors opened with a modest 23-23 SU and 25-21 ATS stretch – despite getting tagged as underdogs in 26 of those contests.

However, Toronto played excellent down the stretch, considering the Raptors closed the regular season with a red-hot 25-11 SU and 22-14 ATS stretch, while scoring 112.2 OPPG and allowing just 108.3 DPPG during that timeframe.

On the other hand, Philadelphia stumbled out to a surprisingly slow start to the season, as the Sixers kicked things off with a lackluster 16-16 SU and 13-18-1 ATS stretch, while averaging just 105.4 OPPG during that span.

The Sixers have dominated since late December though, considering Philadelphia enters Game 5 riding a sturdy 38-16 SU run, while tallying 112.8 OPPG and allowing just 107.6 DPPG across that window.

I’ll back Philly here, as the Sixers stomped Toronto by 15+ PTS at home in Games 1 and 2 of this series, and while the Raptors undeniably showed some fight in their previous two matchups in Toronto, I doubt the Raptors will put up much of a fight at Wells Fargo Center in Game 5.

Toronto Raptors Betting Analysis

  • SU: 49-37
  • ATS: 48-38
  • O/U: 42-44

After last year’s disappointing 12th place showing, Toronto bounced back with a surprisingly decent start to this season, as the Raptors opened with a modest 23-23 SU and 25-21 ATS stretch, despite getting tagged as underdogs in 26 of those contests.

However, Toronto has only improved upon that mark since January, considering the Raptors enter Game 5 riding a sturdy 26-14 SU and 23-17 ATS stretch. Unfortunately, Toronto lacks the size necessary to compete with the Sixers down low in this series, which in turn, has freed up Philly’s perimeter threats and allowed them to build a 3-1 lead (49.2% FG, 45.2% 3FG).

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Analysis

  • SU: 54-32
  • ATS: 40-44-2
  • O/U: 39-44-3

After finishing first in the East with a record of 49-23 SU last year, the Sixers posted a surprisingly slow start to this season, as Philadelphia went just 16-16 SU across their opening 32-game stretch, while averaging just 105.4 OPPG across that window.

Joel Embiid single-handedly carried the Sixers through the winter months though, considering Philadelphia closed the regular season with a solid 35-15 SU and 25-24-1 ATS run, propelled by Embiid averaging 32.5 PPG, 11.6 REB, 4.2 AST, and 1.5 BLK during that timeframe.

Fortunately, help has arrived in the form of James Harden, as Philly acquired the ten-time All-Star from Brooklyn at the trade deadline, and he’s made an immediate impact, highlighted by the Beard averaging 21 PPG and 10.5 AST across the Sixers’ 19-9 SU stretch since his debut – along with 19.3 PPG and 9.8 AST across the first four matchups of this series.

Toronto Raptors vs. Philadelphia 76ers Head-to-Head

The Sixers won two of three regular-season matchups against Toronto last year, with all three contests staying under the total at an average of 205.7 PPG. However, the Raptors went 3-1 SU against Philly this season, with three of those matchups cruising over the total at an average of 226.7 PPG, while the other stayed well under with a score of 93-88 (U 219).

The Sixers spanked Toronto by 15+ PTS at home in the first two matchups of this series though, with Game 1 soaring over the total at a score of 131-111 (O 215.5), while Game 2 stayed under with a score of 112-97 (U 217).

However, the following two matchups in Toronto were far more competitive, as Embiid drilled a last-second three-pointer in overtime to seal the Sixers’ third straight victory in Game 3 (104-101 OT, U 215), while the Raptors finally earned their first win of the series in a hard-fought defensive battle in Game 4 (110-102, U 213).

  • TOR: Scottie Barnes - PG (15.3 PPG, 7.5 REB, 3.5 AST)
  • PHI: Joel Embiid - C (30.6 PPG, 11.7 REB, 4.2 AST)

Toronto Raptors vs. Philadelphia 76ers Betting Conclusion

After avoiding a sweep by successfully defending their homecourt in Game 4 (W, 110-102), the Raptors hit the road for Monday’s fifth matchup as eight-point underdogs against the Sixers at Wells Fargo Center, which marks the heaviest number Philly has been favored by in this series.

I’ll back the Sixers here, as Philadelphia has practically scored at will for most of series, considering the Sixers averaged 115.7 OPPG on 51.5% FG and 46.2% 3FG across Games 1 through 3, compared to the Raptors’ 103 OPPG on 45.1% FG and 37.1% 3FG across that same stretch; and while Toronto bounced back with a valiant home win in Game 4, I doubt they’ll be able to harness that same energy at Wells Fargo Center in Game 5.
