NBA Daily Tip Sheet – Wednesday’s Triple Threat
There's many ways to bet on the NBA, and some of the most popular ones include taking a side, a full-game total, or a player prop. So, this is what we like to call our Daily Triple Threat. Our three best bets in the aforementioned categories for NBA matchups on Wednesday, January 4. Best of luck!
NBA Best Bets for Wednesday, January 4
- Brooklyn Nets -4.5 (-110) @ CHI
- Heat-Lakers Under 229.5 (-110)
- Bojan Bogdanovic (DET) Over 20.5 Points (-120) @ GSW
Brooklyn Nets -4.5 @ CHI
- Matchup: Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls
- TV-Time: NBA League Pass, 8:00 p.m. ET
In the aftermath of all the Kyrie Irving drama and the addition of Ben Simmons, several question marks surrounded the Nets entering this season. And out of the gate, the ship appeared to be sinking, as Brooklyn opened the year with a bumpy 9-11 skid, which ultimately led to the firing of head coach Steve Nash.
However, Brooklyn has arguably been the best team in basketball since late-November, considering the Nets enter Wednesday following wins in 16 of their last 17 games, while leading the league in offensive rating by a distant margin across that span at 120.8 ORtg, with the the only other teams boasting a rating above 117 ORtg during that stretch being the Blazers and Nuggets.
In years past, though, even when everything seemed to be firing on all cylinders for the Nets, their defensive lapses still got the best of them in tough situations. But it looks like the addition of Simmons is finally beginning to pay off, considering Brooklyn has also ranked Top 5 in the league in defensive rating across their latest 16-1 run. Which is the type of balance capable of catapulting this squad back into title contention, if they hold steady.
While on the other hand, the Bulls are one of those teams that has a handful of talented players, and every now and then, they’ll escape with a big win on the heels of a masterpiece by DeMar DeRozan and / or Zach Lavine.
But as a team, something about the Bulls just doesn’t quite click, considering Chicago has already fallen to 11th in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 16-21, and despite entering tonight following wins in five of their last eight games, I’m still not ready to buy into this Bulls squad that currently ranks 24th in the league in net rating (-1.3 Net Rtg).
Heat-Lakers Under 229.5
- Matchup: Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers
- TV-Time: ESPN, 10:00 p.m. ET
The Lakers are currently playing at the second-fastest pace in the league. So, it’s no surprise that the total for tonight’s contest is stationed near the OU 230 mark. However, that number still strikes me as a bit high for a matchup against a Heat squad that ranks 28th in the league in pace.
Miami has partaken in a couple high-scoring affairs recently, highlighted by the Heat combining with their opponent for 240+ points in two of their last three games, which was a pair of totally off-brand performances for Erik Spoelstra’s team.
Prior to their latest stretch, though, the Heat saw 12 straight games fall short of the 230-point mark, which ultimately, is what we’ve come to expect from a Miami squad that ranks dead-last in the league in points scored and Top 5 in points allowed with an average of roughly 109 PPG at both ends of the floor. So, I’ll take the under here.
Bojan Bogdanovic (DET) Over 20.5 Points
- Matchup: Detroit Pistons vs. Golden State Warriors
- TV-Time: NBA League Pass, 10:00 p.m. ET
The Pistons were already shorthanded in the scorer department prior to Cade Cunnigham’s injury. However, in the absence of their primary scoring threat, there’s now lots of extra shot-attempts to go around on a nightly basis for Detroit, and a good portion of them have fallen to Bojan Bogdanovic thus far.
Bogdanovic enters Wednesday having scored 20+ points in nine of the Pistons’ last 12 games, with four of those performances ringing in at 24+ points. And we’ll probably see his shooting numbers continue to climb against a Warriors squad that currently leads the league in pace, and ranks 26th in points allowed (118 PPG).
Michael's Triple Threat Tracker: 3-0 (+262)
- Brooklyn Nets -4.5 (-110) @ CHI
- Heat-Lakers Under 229.5 (-110)
- Bojan Bogdanovic (DET) Over 20.5 Points (-120)
