NBA Daily Tip Sheet Picks and Predictions – Thursday’s Triple Threat
There's several ways to bet on the NBA, and some of the most popular ones include taking a side, a full-game total, or a player prop. So, this is what we like to call our Daily Triple Threat. Our three best bets in the aforementioned categories for NBA matchups on Thursday, February 16th. Best of luck!
NBA Best Bets for Thursday, February 16
- Jrue Holiday (MIL) Over 6.5 Assists (-120) @ CHI
- Wizards-Timberwolves Over 234.5 (-110)
- Los Angeles Clippers +1 (-110) @ PHX
Jrue Holiday (MIL) Over 6.5 Assists
- Matchup: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Chicago Bulls
- TV-Time: TNT, 7:30 p.m. ET
The Bucks are 13-1 in their last 14 contests, bringing their record to 40-17 on the season, which still trails Boston by one game for the top spot in the conference. This Milwaukee’ team is very flawed, they rank 21st in offensive rating and 13th in scoring, despite continuing to play at the tenth-fastest pace in the league.
However, with an absolute wrecking ball in the lineup like Giannis Antetokoumpo, plus, an All-Star point guard to complement him in Jrue Holiday, it usually doesn’t matter what the rest of the Bucks’ supporting cast looks like, simply due to the enormous amount of attention that Giannis dictates at the defensive end.
Holiday enters Thursday having recorded 7+ assists in 11 of his last 16 outings for the Bucks, with seven of those performances ringing in at 8+ assists. So, I’ll back Jrue to clear his assist number in tonight’s matchup against a Bulls squad that ranks 22nd in the league in net rating (-0.1 NetRtg).
Wizards-Timberwolves Over 234.5 (-110)
- Matchup: Washington Wizards vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
- TV-Time: NBA League Pass, 8:00 p.m. ET
Back in December, the Wizards posted an awful 1-13 skid, which ultimately, put them behind the 8-ball in the early stages of the season. However, to the surprise of many, they’ve scratched and clawed their way back into playoff contention prior to the All-Star Break.
The Wizards own a record of 15-9 since Christmas Day, and their latest success doesn’t appear to simply be a flash in the pan, considering they rank 4th in net rating during that timeframe (+4.5 NetRtg), aka, Top 10 in the league on both sides of the script (119 ORtg, 114 DRtg).
While on the other hand, the Timberwolves are already a tough team to run with, currently ranked 4th in the league in pace (101 PACE), but that number actually appears to be on the climb heading into this one, highlighted by Minnesota scoring 120+ points in four of their last six matchups, and their opponent clearing the 120-point mark in the other two.
So, I’ll take the ‘over’ in Thursday’s meeting between two squads that have combined with their opponents for a lofty average of 243.7 PPG across their latest four-game stretch.
Los Angeles Clippers +1 (-110) @ PHX
- Matchup: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns
- TV-Time: TNT, 10:00 p.m. ET
This is an instance of two teams trending in entirely opposite directions, however, in my opinion, this one has the looks of a potential trend breaker. The Clippers are just 4-4 in their last eight games, but cut this L. A. team some slack, 10 of their last 14 contests have been played on the road, and their last three home matchups came against the Bucks, Mavs, and Warriors. Not exactly the easiest stretch of opponents.
While on the flip side, the Suns just traded for Kevin Durant, but he still hasn’t suited up for them yet. So, they’ve been a little bit short-handed as of late. However, this Phoenix’ team continues to walk a clean tightrope, they’re now 11-3 in their last 14 games, but make no mistake about it, a few bad bounces could have led to the telling of a much different story, highlighted by four of those victories coming by a slim margins of five points or less, and certainly, there’s a big difference between 11–3 and 7-7.
Once Durant is activated for Phoenix, all of this analysis goes out the window, but for the time being, the Clippers still strike me as the better team in this matchup. So, I’ll back L. A. to handle business on the road in Thursday’s nightcap.
Michael's Triple Threat Tracker: 45-31-2 (+924)
- Jrue Holiday (MIL) Over 6.5 Assists (-120) @ CHI
- Wizards-Timberwolves Over 234.5 (-110)
- Los Angeles Clippers +1 (-110) @ PHX
