Dallas Mavericks -11 (-110) vs. CHI

For a little while, the general public seemed to accept the Mavericks’ struggles as growing pains associated with the acquisition of another big time star in Kyrie Irving, along with some newfound issues in regards to depth and defense, but at this point, it’s safe to assume that their’ problems are much bigger than originally anticipated.

The Mavericks have posted a head-scratching record of 9-16 in their 25 games since trading for Kyrie, which primarily stems from a huge downtick at the defensive end during that timeframe, ranked just 26th in the league in defensive rating across that window (118.4 DRtg), and now, they sit on the outside-looking-in of the Play-In Tournament with just two games left to play, currently tied with Oklahoma City for the 10th spot.

Fortunately, though, Dallas draws the Bulls and Spurs in their final two matchups of the regular season, and there’s no excuse for dropping either of those two games.

The Bulls are already locked into the 10-seed in the West with a record of 38-42, giving them very little to play for down the stretch as they prepare for next week’s Play-In Tournament, considering they enter Friday following losses in four of their last six contests, with all four of those losses coming by double-digits, and their two wins coming in matchups against Charlotte and a beat-up Memphis’ squad.

Will the Mavericks sneak into the Play-In Tournament? Only time will tell; but at the very least, I expect to see them win their last two games handily, and let their fate boil down to whether or not the Thunder pull their weight over the next few days.

Grizzlies-Bucks Over 229 (-110)

For the most part, the Grizzlies and Bucks are both locked into their respective playoff spots, with Milwaukee having already clinched the one seed in the East, and Memphis currently occupying the two seed in the West. So, in layman’s terms, this one should be a “roll the ball out, and have some fun” game for these two squads.

The Grizzlies are 9-2 in their last 11 games, which primarily stems from a huge uptick at the offensive end of the floor, considering they’ve scored a lofty average of 124 PPG on 50% from the floor and 39% from long range during that timeframe, despite also surrendering 119+ points in seven of those contests.

While on the other hand, the Bucks’ pace of play numbers have been all over the pace as of late, as they enter Friday following wins in eight of their last ten games, while scoring 126+ points in five of those contents, and falling short of the 106-point mark in three of them.

It’s tough to predict which version of this Bucks’ team is going to show up on any given night, however, there appears to be some value on the table in regards to the ‘over’ in Friday’s matchup between a pair of squads that have combined with their opponents for an average of 241.5 PPG across their last five contests.

Bennedict Mathurin (IND) Over 19.5 Points

At this point, the Pacers are officially eliminated from playoff contention, currently stationed 12th in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 34-46, which trails the Bulls by 4.5 games for the final Play-In Tournament spot, and just recently, they elected to shut down Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner for the remainder of the year, so Indy is really scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

However, due to the recent status of this Pacers’’ squad, rookie Bennedict Mathurin has sprung onto the scene in a big way for Indiana as of late, considering he enters Friday having scored 19+ points in three of his last five outings, with two of those performances ringing in north of the 25-point mark.

So, I’ll back Mathurin to have another solid night in the scoring department in Friday’s matchup against a Pistons’ squad that ranks 27th in points allowed and 28th in defensive rating (119 OPPG, 119.2 DRtg).
