Betting on the Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland has always been a big sports town with some of the most passionate fans in the country. When it comes to betting on the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been a mainstay in that Ohio city for more than 50 years.
Cleveland Cavaliers Team Overview
The Cleveland Cavaliers made their NBA debut in 1970 as an expansion team. Following a brutal 15-67 campaign that initial season, they slowly began to make an impact in the league.
The team’s first playoff appearance was in 1976 as the Cavaliers went all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Jim Brewer was Cleveland’s main attraction during that postseason run.
Point guard Mark Price led the first revival in Cleveland by helping his team make the playoffs in eight of the next nine years through the 1995/1996 season. The best effort was 57 wins in 1989 while making it back to the conference finals.
The second revival of Cleveland basketball started with the arrival of a king. LeBron James became a member of the Cavaliers in 2003 at the tender age of 19. This lone addition to the roster changed the course of not only this franchise, but the entire NBA for years to come.
With James in the starting five, Cleveland was a perennial contender to win the Eastern Conference. However, the Cavaliers only had one trip to the NBA Finals to show for their efforts. It was the second coming of the king that led the franchise to the promised land.
James returned to Cleveland in 2014 after spending four seasons with the Miami Heat. Along with Kyrie Irving, this duo led the Cavaliers to four-straight appearances in the NBA Finals with one world title in 2016. This was the team’s only championship in franchise history.
More recently, Cleveland is slowly building another winner behind some fresh new faces. The competitive environment in the NBA’s Central Division is an added plus for betting on the team.
As a betting example, you could take the Cavaliers and the five points on the NBA point spread as home underdogs against the Bulls. If Cleveland wins the game outright or loses by fewer than those five points, you win.
