Jets vs Raiders Betting Prediction & Odds for Sunday Night Football Week 10

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

Not too long ago, this Las Vegas team was trending downward and heading south fast, as the Raiders entered last week’s contest against New York sitting at a record of 3-5, and had just elected to fire their head coach and bench QB Jimmy Garoppolo after generating less than 20 points of offense in seven of their first eight games. However, in last week’s win over the Giants, they looked like a totally different team as the Raiders stomped New York by a score of 30-6 in their first game under head coach Antonio Pierce – and it turns out, that might’ve been enough to win back the respect of the general betting audience.

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the SuperBook closed the lookahead line for this contest at Jets -2.5 on Sunday afternoon. However, in the aftermath of the Raiders’ blowout victory in their first game with a new coach, as well as the Jets posting an ugly 27-6 loss to the Chargers on Monday Night Football to close Week 9, the spread for this matchup has moved to Jets -1 as of Friday evening, with Las Vegas taking roughly 57% of tickets and 56% of the money heading into the weekend.

As great as the Raiders looked last week though, I certainly won’t be hopping on the Vegas bandwagon as the result of a meaningless win over the Giants. And quite frankly, the Jets’ miserable loss to LA didn’t change my opinion of New York much either.

At this point, I think we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Jets whenever Zach Wilson plays quarterback: bad offense and great defense. The Jets are still floating above water with a record of 4-4 on the season, despite their miserable performance against LA last week. However, they certainly aren’t winning games because of their offense. The Jets have scored 20 points or less in six of their seven contests started by Wilson, but they’ve still managed to sneak away with a handful of wins on the heels of an elite defense.

With the over-under set at a low number of 36.5, this Sunday Night Football matchup has the makings of an affair that resides in New York’s wheelhouse with the oddsmakers seemingly prepping for an ugly, low-scoring battle at MetLife Stadium. The Jets defense allowed just 17.7 PPG in matchups against the Chiefs, Eagles, and Bills. So it’s tough to imagine Aidan O’Connell and the Raiders offense doing significantly more damage than those teams.

Whereas, Vegas typically can’t rely on its defense to single-handedly keep games competitive like New York can. The Raiders have surrendered 23+ points in five of their last eight matchups, which includes opposing point totals of 30 to Tyson Bagent and the Bears, and 23 to Kenny Pickett and the Steelers. Give me the Jets to bounce back this Sunday.

New York Jets Betting Analysis

The Jets appeared to be dead in the water when Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles on the opening drive of the season. And for the most part, all of their worst nightmares have come true with Zach Wilson at QB, as the Jets enter the week ranked 30th in both scoring (16.5 PPG) and per play yardage (4.6 YPP) on the offensive side of the ball.

But against all odds, the Jets dominant defensive play has still managed to lift them to four wins on the season, despite scoring 20 points or less in two of those victories.

We might not be able to trust the Jets offense to score a bunch of points on Sunday night, but push comes to shove, their defense should be able to hold up their end of the bargain with relative ease. All things considered, the Jets defense is the best individual unit in this matchup by a distant margin. I like my chances with New York in this one.

Las Vegas Raiders Betting Analysis

The Raiders absolutely manhandled the Giants in every facet of last week’s matchup, which could possibly be attributed to the much-needed QB / coaching change for Vegas. But let’s be real, the Giants have been dominated in pretty much every matchup so far this season, and their starting QB tore his ACL mid-game last week. The Giants have fallen short of the 17-point scoring mark in seven straight contests, and defensively, they’ve surrendered 28+ points in five of nine games.

All that just to say, let’s not jump to any drastic conclusions about this new-look Vegas team after last week’s winning performance. As far as I’m concerned, they are still the same team that averaged just 15.8 points per game through the first eight weeks of the season.
