In Week 5 of the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs journey to Minnesota for a mid-afternoon showdown against the Vikings. The odds favor the Chiefs by five points as they aim for their fourth victory of the season. • Opening point spread: Chiefs -6.5
• Opening moneyline: Chiefs -240/Vikings +190
• Opening total: Over/Under 53.5 points scored
• Time: 4:25 p.m. ET Saturday (CBS)

UPDATE 5 P.M. ET WEDNESDAY: TwinSpires pegged the Chiefs 5-point favorites to open, and the line dipped to -4.5, then -4. Kansas City is getting 74% of early tickets, while 58% of early cash is on Minnesota.

"It's a Pros vs. Joes matchup. The Pros snapped up Vikings +5 right away. The public is all over K.C., per usual," Lucas said.

The total crept from 52 to 52.5, with tickets 3/1-plus and money almost 4/1 on the Over.

"Another K.C. game, another Under the book is rooting for," Lucas said.

UPDATE 11 P.M. ET SUNDAY: Kansas City (3-1 SU/2-2 ATS) got all it could handle from the New York Jets in the Week 3 Sunday nighter. The Chiefs sprinted to a 17-0 first-quarter lead, and it looked as if Taylor Swift's attendance was going to be the only thing to really discuss.

But K.C. let New York get back into it, and the game was tied at 20 early in the third quarter. The Chiefs ultimately escaped 23-20, though they failed to cash as 7.5-point road faves.

Minnesota (1-3 SU/1-2-1 ATS) finally broke through for its first win of the season. The Vikings, giving 4.5 at Carolina, earned a 21-13 victory.

"Not a ton of action yet, as this game is off the board, with the Chiefs playing [Week 4] Sunday night," Degnon said, noting Chiefs-Vikings will go back up on the board Monday morning. "I think we will write some good two-way, but I could see some liability eventually show up on the Chiefs moneyline, as well as the Over."

Chiefs vs Vikings Pick, Prediction

Action Network NFL betting expert Brandon Anderson offers this prediction:

Kansas City's offense has felt a bit stuck in the mud so far this season, topping this number only once so far, but the Chiefs scored 27 or more in 62% of their games the last three years and this shapes up as a potential get-right spot for Mahomes and the offense. The key here is the matchup against Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

Remember Kansas City's season opener last fall against the Cardinals? Vance Joseph's defense blitzed all game and Mahomes shredded them to the tune of 360 yards and five TDs in the first three quarters of a blowout. Flores is blitzing around 60% of the time for Minnesota, an outrageous number, and the Vikings pass rushers aren't even getting home. Mahomes will eat that blitz for lunch.

I really can see Mahomes and the Chiefs having a monster offensive game. I'll be looking for a good price on Chiefs alternate spreads and team total overs in case Kansas City hangs a really crooked number. Mahomes has thrown at least four TDs 16 times in his career, 19% of the time. I like his chances of adding to the list, +540 at Caesars.
