The NFL betting odds see the Texans as short road underdogs coming off an upset win as they visit the Falcons in this Week 5 non-conference battle. Coverage begins from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.

Houston Texans vs Atlanta Falcons Odds

• Opening point spread: Falcons -3
• Opening moneyline: Falcons -115/Texans +105
• Opening total: Over/Under 41.5 points scored
• Time: 1 p.m. ET Sunday (FOX)

UPDATE 10:45 A.M. ET SUNDAY: The Falcons are up a point since Friday at BetMGM (see below), advancing to -2.5. But it's still two-way spread play, with 57% of spread bets on Houston/57% of spread money on Atlanta.

The total nudged from 41.5 to 42 this morning, with 74% of tickets/84% of money on the Over.

UPDATE 5 P.M. ET FRIDAY: Atlanta fell from -2.5 to -1 by Monday morning at BetMGM, then briefly rebounded to -2.5 Tuesday. Since then, this line has toggled between -2 and -1.5, and it's currently Falcons -1.5 (-115).

Houston is seeing 54% of spread bets, while Atlanta is taking 58% of spread cash. Early moneyline bettors are on C.J. Stroud and the Texans, at 81% of bets/77% of dollars.

BetMGM's total went from 41.5 to 41 and back to 41.5, all on Monday in the NFL odds Week 6 market. The number hasn't changed since, with 55% of bets/69% of money on the Over.

UPDATE 11 P.M. ET SUNDAY: C.J. Stroud and Houston (2-2 SU and ATS) are on a two-game SU and ATS upswing. Week 4 brought a convincing win, as the Texans – 3-point home 'dogs – thumped Pittsburgh 30-6.

Atlanta (2-2 SU/1-3 ATS) was also a 3-point Week 4 underdog, but came up a loser in London. The Falcons fell to Jacksonville 23-7.

The SuperBook backed up a tick in its NFL Week 5 odds market, lowering the Falcons to -2.5 tonight.

Texans vs Falcons Pick, Prediction

Action Network NFL betting expert Brandon Anderson offers this prediction:

Offensive line woes or not, C.J. Stroud looks the real deal and he is absolutely balling right now.

Stroud has been outstanding with a PFF grade of 90 from a clean pocket, and Atlanta struggles to put pressure on the QB. The Falcons rank bottom six in pass defense and the Texans are shockingly in the top five with Stroud, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell in sync. This team just hung 30+ in back-to-back weeks on a good Steelers defense and a Jaguars defense allowing 15.0 PPG in its other games.

Atlanta's offense is struggling and playing slow, so books had to deflate this total, and that means value on Houston's over. The Falcons are also returning from a game in London without choosing to take a bye. Teams in that spot have allowed opponents to go over their team total 7 of 10 times, with the opponent tied or leading in the fourth quarter of all 10 games.

This Texans thing looks real, and this team is still just starting to get healthy, but I don't trust the run defense yet and this is the wrong matchup there. I'll skip the side or moneyline so I don't have to worry about the D and just focus on Stroud and the offense getting to 21 instead, and at plus money at that.
