Super Bowl 59 Betting Results: Eagles Win Generally Benefits Sportsbooks

Super Bowl 59 betting results were nothing like pregame action. Prior to kickoff, there was a lot of two-way wagering. But once play commenced, success was pretty much a one-way street.

The Philadelphia Eagles stunningly steamrolled the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 40-22. Behind the counter, it was generally a good result, though not entirely.

Here’s everything you need to know about Super Bowl betting results: how the bookmakers and bettors did on Super Bowl 59 odds and action. And if you're already looking ahead to next season, be sure to use our BetMGM bonus code to get the most out of your action.

Fly Eagles Fly

Philadelphia closed as either a 1- or 1.5-point underdog, depending on where you bet. But the Eagles looked nothing like a 'dog Sunday night in New Orleans.

Jalen Hurts & Co. led 24-0 at halftime and stretched that to 34-0 before finally allowing a Chiefs TD late in the third quarter. The Eagles went on to win 40-22, and it wasn't as close as the final score. It was a blowout, through and through.

And BetMGM was good with that.

"Super Bowl 59 was the single biggest betting event in the history of BetMGM. It took the most bets and was one of the best single-game results in company history," BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said.

Added Jeff Benson, Circa Sports director of operations:

"We did well to the game. The Over hurt. Props turned out decent. It was a great day overall."

Circa's total closed at 48, and the only reason the Over hit was because the Chiefs got two otherwise meaningless touchdowns in the final three minutes.

As for the hundreds of Super Bowl props, bettors certainly picked up some money in spots. But in general, sportsbooks did well, largely thanks to ...

No Saquon Score

Saquon Barkley took boatloads of tickets and money for every market he was in. In particular, bettors were all over the Eagles running back to score the first touchdown or have an anytime touchdown.

Surprisingly, Barkley got neither. That was key for BetMGM.

"Super Bowl bettors cashed in on Eagles moneyline and Jalen Hurts Super Bowl MVP. But [the] defenses slowing down Saquon Barkley and Travis Kelce netted a great result for us," Cipollini said.

Said Tristan Davis, Cipollini's peer in BetMGM's trading room: "We were satisfied with the day. It's a good result, with Saquon not scoring. We will sign for it."

Added Caesars Sports head of football trading Joey Feazel: "There were a variety of touchdown scorers, which would usually be favorable to the customers. But Saquon Barkley was the most popular single-game-parlay leg, and he did not see the end zone."

Again, Super Bowl prop bettors got there in some spots, but not nearly enough to damage the sportsbooks.

"Our worst results: Alternate point spreads, first half, MVP, Cooper DeJean scoring a touchdown. Kelce Unders and Barkley Unders were good," Benson said.

Big Money Backs Both Sides

BetMGM took a lot of large Eagles bets early, particularly in Las Vegas. There were moneyline wagers of $800,000 and $750,000 on Eagles +110, so those customers pocketed profit of $880,000 and $825,000, respectively.

However, there were several big Chiefs plays, too, including two massive ones Sunday: $750,000 K.C. moneyline -120, $750,000 K.C. -1.5 (-105). And BetMGM had hefty Kansas City Super Bowl futures liability.

"We [were] getting more Eagles action. But it's still [wasn't] eclipsing our Chiefs futures liability," BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said.

Caesars Sports' Joey Feazel sang a similar tune Sunday night.

"Overall, Super Bowl 59 was a decent result for the sportsbook. More customers backed the Chiefs in this game and in the futures pool than the Eagles," Feazel said.
