Super Bowl Prop Bets: Five Wagers The Sharps Are Making
Super Bowl prop bets are easily the best part about the Big Game. From the most casual bettors to the pros – sharp bettors, if you will – all of them can and do get involved.
In fact, Super Bowl props have grown so popular that there is now more money bet on props than on the game itself.
The SuperBook, long renowned for its extensive Super Bowl props menu, held its annual big reveal Thursday night. Following are the five most interesting Super Bowl prop bets that pro bettors made on Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles.
Super Bowl 59 Prop Bets
Saquon Barkley Longest Rush
When it comes to props, sharp bettors tend to like Unders. That was the case Thursday night for Bill Krackomberger, a regular at The SuperBook's Super Bowl prop bets release.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is having a season for the ages. And he's consistently ripping off long runs. But on the Over/Under for Barkley's longest run, Krackomberger couldn't resist Under -110 on an opening total of 25.5.
"I'm shocked I was able to bet it. I did not plan on betting that," Krackomberger said. "I expected the number to be 19.5 or 20.5. But maybe The SuperBook's right. The public is all coming to town to bet Barkley Over."
Krackomberger's action help quickly move the total from 25.5 down to 23.5. And he feels pretty good about his number.
"I think the Chiefs are gonna be focused on containing Barkley," he said, noting he made the max bet of $2,000. "The Under is a big bet for me. If they took more, I'd bet more."
Patrick Mahomes Rushing Yards
Randy McKay, another regular for this annual event, opened his wagering on Super Bowl prop bets with a play on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes: Over 28.5 rushing yards, at -110.
"This was the lowest number I've seen. I'd seen some 30s and 29.5s," McKay said. "I like Mahomes to keep running the ball like he did against Buffalo. He even had some designed runs in that game."
Mahomes had 11 carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns in Kansas City's 32-29 win over Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game.
"It's kind of a square bet. I can see the public banging that number up a lot higher," McKay said.
By night's end Thursday, Mahomes Over/Under rushing total was up 3 yards to 31.5 (-110).
Nick Bolton Total Solo & Assisted Tackles
The SuperBook opened Nick Bolton's Over/Under on total tackles at 7.5 (Over -120). In part due to McKay weighing in, it's now at 7.5 (Over -150).
"I've been betting a lot of tackle props this year. And I like Bolton," McKay said. "He had nine tackles in the Super Bowl two years ago, and Philly didn't run the ball as much then as they do now. So that'll give Bolton more opportunities.
"Bolton scored a touchdown two years ago, too. I like him to have a big game again."
Along with his nine tackles in Kansas City's 38-35 Super Bowl 59 win over Philadelphia, Bolton returned a fumble 36 yards for a TD.
Jahan Dotson Receptions
SuperBook oddsmakers aren't expecting much out of Eagles wideout Jahan Dotson. His total receptions opened at 0.5 (-110). But thanks to sharp action, the price on the Over moved out to -170 in this Super Bowl prop bets market.
Krackomberger liked the Over at -110. Yes, Philadelphia's offense has plenty of options before Dotson – running it with QB Jalen Hurts, running with or passing to Barkley, or throwing it to A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith or Dallas Goedert.
But Krackomberger sees at least one catch for Dotson.
"I think he gets a reception. The Eagles may change things up in this game," he said.
Total Number of Chiefs With a Rushing Attempt
SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said this Super Bowl prop bet got a lot of sharp attention. In fact, the Over opened as an underdog, but now is a favorite.
"We went from 4.5 (Over +140) to 4.5 (Over -130). That surprises me a little bit, to see the bettors hit it like that," Degnon said.
Certainly, Mahomes is going to run the ball. As noted above, he had nine carries in the win over the Bills. Kareem Hunt, Isiah Pacheco and Xavier Worthy also carried the ball in that game.
The wiseguys seem to think at least one more player will get in on the act for the Chiefs. Maybe it's JuJu Smith-Schuster or Hollywood Brown.
Or perhaps this scenario unfolds: The Chiefs are in full control in the fourth quarter, and backup QB Carson Wentz – the former Eagle – comes in and gets a rushing attempt on a kneel-down to become that fifth rusher.
It's pretty unlikely. But that'd be quite a way to hit the Over.
