Betting on the Green Bay Packers
The Packers have sat firmly near the top of the football mountain for the last several decades, making them an intriguing bet each year and each NFL week.
Green Bay Packers Franchise History
Green Bay’s history dates all the way back to 1921. Curly Lambeau, for whom the Packers’ field is named after, coached the team for nearly three decades and captured six NFL championships.
Heading into the ‘60s, Vince Lombardi, after whom the Super Bowl trophy is named, took over and won five more titles for Green Bay, two of which were the league’s first Super Bowls.
In the post-Lombardi era, the Packers experimented with a handful of coaches, including Bart Starr, who quarterbacked Green Bay to all of those championships under Lombardi.
Nobody could replicate Lambeau or Lombardi’s success, or even come close, until Mike Holmgren in the ‘90s.
Holmgren’s success, which included two Super Bowl appearances and one victory, was largely predicated on the arrival of Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.
Favre, one of the most electrifying players in NFL history, had the Packers constantly competing in the NFC.
Luckily for Packers fans, the gloom of Favre’s departure was quickly forgotten when Aaron Rodgers immediately took over quarterbacking duties. Rodgers, who is widely considered one of the best arm-talents of all-time, brought the Lombardi Trophy home to Green Bay in 2011.

Sports bettors in Wisconsin are able to place wagers only at retail casinos operated by the Oneida Nation and the St. Croix Chippewa Indians.
Additionally, the Potawatomi tribe reached an agreement with Governor Tony Evers to allow sports betting at its casinos in the Badger State.
The Potawatomi tribe plans to open a sportsbook at its Milwaukee casino by the end of 2022. While sports betting is slowly expanding, Wisconsinites are unlikely to see online betting or non-tribal betting in 2022.
Still, bettors are able to place wagers on their hometown teams, including the Packers. Below is an example of a bet someone might see at a sportsbook in the state:
- Packers -10
- Bears +10
In this instance, the Packers are big, 10-point favorites over the Chicago Bears. Packers bettors need Green Bay to defeat the Bears by at least 11 points to cash their spread bet.
If the Packers win the game by fewer than 10, Packers bettors lose their wager. If the Packers knock off the Bears by exactly 10 points, all spread wagers settle as a push.
For the time being, sports fans in Wisconsin can play daily fantasy sports (DFS) or at social sportsbooks like Fliff, Thrillzz, and Rebet.
