CALGARY FLAMES vs. DALLAS STARS PREDICTIONS

This series has been crazy. Not even Leah Hextall on ESPN announcing some of the games with her shrill, shrieking voice can ruin it. Please, let A.J. Mleczko, who actually played hockey, take over, as she is so knowledgeable about the same and would be way much better with Dominic Moore in that booth.

But, anyway, back to the game, which is luckily on TNT. So no Leah. Maybe Biz Nasty will see something he likes behind the Dallas bench - lol. If you know, you know. If not, look it up, and why haven't you been watching closely?

If you like defense, checking, hard hitting and goaltending, this series has been right up your alley. If you like fire-wagon hockey, games which look like the All-Star Game, or at least how the ASG used to be, then you detest this series. We have had 18 total goals in five games, and that includes four empty-net goals in the past four games, with four power-play goals and one penalty-shot goal by Calgary's Johnny Gaudreau in Game 4. That's it.

We have had a total of nine 5-on-5 goals through five games, so yeah, keep slamming that UNDER. In fact, the UNDER should be 5-0, but the Stars tucked home an empty-net goal by Roope Hintz with 1.0 seconds left to flip it to OVER in one of the worst bad beats you'll ever see in hockey. That even got the attention of Scott Van Pelt and Stanford Steve in their weekly segment. It was gross. Expect another low-scoring game here.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 53-23-11
  • ATS: 47-40
  • O/U: 41-39-7

The Flames look for a repeat performance of Game 4, which saw Calgary win 4-1 at Dallas in the biggest blowout of the series. The three-goal margin was easily the largest of the series, as all of the other games were decided by two goals or fewer, and it took an empty-net goal even in Game 4 to get us to that margin of victory.

Calgary is 5-2 in the past seven playoff games as a favorite, so it is flying high even on visitor ice, looking for the close-out. The Flames are 35-16 in the past 51 games overall, too, but the Pacific Division champs are still just 6-14 in the past 20 Western Conference Quarterfinals games over the past several seasons.

As mentioned, it's all UNDER all the time for the Flames, lately, and in this series. The UNDER has hit in six of the past seven dating back to the regular season, and 7-3-1 in the previous 11 on the road, so this Jacob Markstrom brick-wall stuff is nothing new.

DALLAS STARS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 48-33-6
  • ATS: 37-50
  • O/U: 36-48-3

The Stars have given the Flames their best shot, but now have their backs against the wall facing elimination. Jake Oettinger has been spectacular in this series, putting the toothless Stars offense still in a position for victories night in and night out.

Oettinger is just 2-3-0 so far, but he has a sparkling 1.63 GAA and .956 SV% with one shutout through five games, almost willing Dallas to victories. That's impressive against a Calgary offense which netted 293 goals, fourth-most in the Western Conference during the regular season. In fact, Calgary was No. 2 in the NHL in goal differential at plus-85, even better than the high-flying Colorado Avalanche. So Oettinger's showing is nothing short of amazing.

The Stars have won five of the past seven home games, and five of the past seven in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, as well. And like the Flames, the UNDER is 4-1 in the past five overall, 7-3 in the past 10 at home and 5-1-1 in the past seven as a 'dog.

CALGARY FLAMES vs. DALLAS STARS CONCLUSION

It would be shocking to see Markstrom and/or Oettinger let in a bunch of ugly goals now. In fact, usually the later we get into a series, the more the intensity ramps up, the scoring chances are fewer and far between, and the scores get a little lower. How much less offense can we actually see? I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-1 hockey game requiring overtime with these two in Game 6. In fact, I am surprised the books are still offering the UNDER 5.5, and not a flat 5. That seems like the best bargain of the day.

I think the Stars live to see another day, and this series, and hockey fans, deserve a Game 7. This has been an absolute war, and it's a shame one of these teams has to go home eventually.
