NEW YORK RANGERS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES PREDICTIONS

The Rangers were on the ropes in their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, going down 3-1 after four games. After a 4-3 loss in triple-overtime in Game 1, which saw Igor Shesterkin make 79 saves, the Rangers goaltender looked spent in Game 3 in Pittsburgh. In that game, the Rangers were buried 7-4. He started Game 4, but was pulled again, falling 7-2. The Penguins pushed the Rangers to the brink, but couldn't finish the deal.

New York registered a 5-3 in Game 5, and also 5-3 in Game 6, to force a decisive Game 7. In the final game at MSG, the Penguins were ahead late, but the Rangers forced overtime, tying it 3-3, and then won it 4-3 when Artemi Panarin came through with a laser past Tristan Jarry. The OVER ended up cashing in all seven of the games against the Pens.

Carolina and Boston played a tough seven-game series, with the home team winning each of the contests. The Hurricanes had home-ice advantage, and won all four games at PNC Arena with a combined score of 18-6, including a narrow 3-2 win in Game 7.

Antti Raanta stepped up and helped the Hurricanes to the series win, as Frederik Andersen missed the entire seven-game series with a lower-body injury. Andersen has been working his way back from the LBI, skating on his own, but it remains a mystery if he'll be back sooner or later. Raanta has looked good in his absence, with rookie Pyotr Kochetkov serving as the backup.

  • SU: 56-26-7
  • ATS: 45-44
  • O/U: 39-47-3

The Rangers were really on the ropes after four games, but New York heads into this series on a three-game win streak, outscoring the opposition 14-9. The OVER connected in all seven of the games against the Pens, and New York won its most recent road outing in Game 6 after dropping Games 3 and 4 away from home.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 58-23-8
  • ATS: 44-45
  • O/U: 42-42-5

The Hurricanes play in one of the most difficult environments...for the opposition. Carolina picked up four wins in four tries at PNC Arena in front of its raucous home crowd. Carolina was also on quite the OVER run, going 5-0-1 in the first six games of the series before the UNDER cashed in Game 7.

Carolina has won 42 of the past 58 games at home, while cashing in 50 of the past 69 games as a favorite. The Hurricanes are also an impressive 25-8 in the past 33 playoff games as a favorite. The Canes are 5-0 in the past five Conference Semifinal games.

As far as the totals are concerned, the OVER is an impressive 8-1-1 in the past 10 games overall for the Hurricanes, while going 5-1 in the past six as a favorite, and 4-1 in the past five home games.

NEW YORK RANGERS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES CONCLUSION

The Rangers hit the road for Raleigh with renewed hope after a three-game win streak to go from the brink of elimination to sending the Penguins to the handshake line. They have dominated the Hurricanes over the years, winning 35 of the past 51 meetings, while the road team is 4-1 in the past five meetings. The UNDER is also 5-2 in the past seven meetings in Raleigh.

Despite the H2H historical trends, however, you have to like the OVER. The OVER was 5-1-1 in the opening round for the Canes, while going a perfect 7-0 for the Rangers. There is no reason to get away from that now. And based on Carolina's dominance at home, look to the moderate favorite, but play them lightly.
