COLORADO AVALANCHE vs. ST. LOUIS BLUES PREDICTIONS

The Avalanche and their home crowd were stunned in Game 2 in Ball Arena. After a scoreless first period, the Blues erupted for two goals in the second period. Jordan Kyrou had a pretty goal at 5:45 from Ryan O'Reilly and Pavel Buchnevich to break the ice, and David Perron stayed hot with a power-play goal from Buchnevich and Vladimir Tarasenko to make it 2-0.

The Avs finally answered with Gabriel Landeskog's first of the series on a power-play marker to get the crowd back into it briefly early in the third. Still up 2-1, Perron added insurance with an unassisted goal, his seventh in eight playoff games, while Brandon Saad added the insurance marker into the empty net.

For the second consecutive game, the Blues shut down the big dogs of the Avalanche, as Landeskog had the PPG, his only goal in the first two games, while Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar have each yet to light the lamp in the series.

COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 61-20-7
  • ATS: 42-46
  • O/U: 45-38-5

After five straight victories to open the playoffs, including the four-game sweep of the Nashville Predators, the Avalanche finally had some postseason adversity in the 4-1 loss in Game 2. Look for Colorado to respond favorably, especially in a place it has played well in recent times.

Not only is the road team 5-2 in the past seven meetings between these teams, but the Avalanche have won five of their past seven skates at Enterprise Center, while winning seven of the previous nine meetings overall. Yes, the Blues looked good in Game 2, and they very well could have dropped the Avalanche in the Game 1 overtime loss, too, but Colorado should respond in the Gateway City.

The Avs are just 7-18 in the past 25 Conference Semifinal Round games, and that's a little concerning. But they're 16-7 in the past 23 as a road favorite, and 27-11 in the past 38 games in the playoffs when favored, so expect the Game 2 loss to serve as a wake-up call.

ST. LOUIS BLUES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 54-25-11
  • ATS: 53-37
  • O/U: 46-39-5

The Blues could very well have won Game 1, an overtime loss in Denver. Jordan Binnington stood on his head, but the Blues offense didn't help him out. They're still 19-7 in the past 26 games overall, and the change from Ville Husso to Binner after Game 3 of the Minnesota series was genius by head coach Craig Berube.

The Blues have won eight of the past 11 games at home, while going 7-3 in the past 10 games as an underdog. But even after the Game 2 win in Denver, St. Louis is still just 3-8 in the past 11 playoff games as a 'dog.

As far as totals, it's all OVER all the time for St. Louis. The OVER is 22-10-1 in the past 33 games overall, but oddly enough, the UNDER has cashed in each of the first two in this series. That's got a lot to do with a power outage from the big stars for Colorado, not so much a lack of punch for St. Louis, though. The UNDER is 4-0-1 in the past five Conference Semifinal Round games for the Notes, however.

COLORADO AVALANCHE vs. ST. LOUIS BLUES BETTING CONCLUSION

The way the Blues closed out the regular season, and the way they rebounded against a very good Minnesota Wild team in the opening round, should have been concerning to the No. 1 seed Avalanche. St. Louis looked very good closing out the year, and it has carried over that momentum through the first eight postseason games. Colorado lost on home ice, and now St. Louis holds home ice advantage with three of the next five games at Enterprise Center.

However, do not expect the Avalanche to be intimidated by skating in St. Louis. Yes, the Blues hoisted a Stanley Cup in 2019 with a lot of this core, and yes, the crowd will be at full throat, making for an unwelcoming and hostile environment. But Colorado has the tools to not only succeed, but pound teams every night. So far in this series, though, the Avs have had a power outage. One night, perhaps Game 3, all the pieces are going to come together, and they're going to thrash the Blues and seize back home-ice advantage. I think Colorado's Game 2 loss lights a fire under it, and the Avs respond with a resounding win.
