CALGARY FLAMES vs. EDMONTON OILERS PREDICTIONS

The Flames had a defensive battle with the Dallas Stars, outscoring them 15-14 in a seven-game series. In Game 1 against the Edmonton Oilers, the team's combined for 15 total goals in a 9-6 win by the Flames, a complete contrast from the Stars series. In Game 2 on Friday night, the offensive times continued in the Battle of Alberta, with the Oilers pulling off the 5-3 road victory behind Mike Smith. The OVER has connected in each of the two games so far.

The Oilers didn't have a defensive challenge like the Flames did in the first round, but the UNDER did cash in four of their seven matchups. That includes a 2-0 victory in Game 7, so the high scores in the first two games of this series are surprising, but not terribly shocking. Remember, in the final regular-season matchup the Flames posted a 9-5 win in Calgary on March 26, and the OVER hit in three of the four regular-season meetings.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 55-25-11
  • ATS: 48-43
  • O/U: 44-39-8

The Flames were disappointed to lose in Game 2, coughing up home-ice advantage in the process. But the way this series has been going so far, it's going to be wide-open, and they could easily wrestle it back with a win or two in Edmonton.

Calgary has won 35 of the past 52 games overall, while going 35-16 in the past 51 when favored. However, the road team is 1-4 in the past five games, while going just 2-5 in the past seven in the Conference Semifinals round.

As far as the totals, the OVER is 3-0-1 in the past four games overall for the Flames, while going 4-1 in the past five Conference Semifinal Round games, too. The OVER is 3-0-1 in the past four when favored, too.

EDMONTON OILERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 54-30-7
  • ATS: 44-47
  • O/U: 47-41-3

It's a little surprising that even after a Game 2 road win, the Oilers are short 'dogs on home ice for Game 3. The Oilers have been successful in 20 of the past 27 games at Rogers Place, while going 12-5 in the past 17 following a victory, too.

The home team has cashed in six of the past seven meetings, with the Flames going just 1-6 in their past seven trips up Alberta Route 2 to Edmonton. The OVER has also connected in five of the past six in this series.

For the totals, the OVER is 16-6 in the past 22 games at home for the Oilers, while going 6-1 in the past seven in the Conference Semifinals Round. The OVER is 8-2-2 in the past 12 played on a Sunday, too, for whatever that's worth.

CALGARY FLAMES vs. EDMONTON OILERS CONCLUSION

The way this series has started off, it's abundantly clear that either team can win on any given night, regardless of venue, and we're also going to see A LOT of goals. Vegas adjusted slightly, bumping the total up to 6.5, and even 7, at most shops. You just don't see a 7 very often in NHL, and back in the day that was unheard of. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see a 7.5 the way this series has started off, as Calgary has scored 12 total goals, with Edmonton potting 11 goals, and that's in just two games.

I'll give the Oilers the edge here. While Jacob Markstrom is overall a better goaltender than Smith, neither has played very well in this series, and Smith was yanked in Game 1. He bounced back with the road win in Game 2, and will come in with a lot of confidence. You can bet lightly on Edmonton at home, and go harder on the OVER until we finally start to see some semblance of defense.
