NEW YORK RANGERS vs. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING PREDICTIONS

The Rangers fired out to a 2-0 series lead, and the two-time defending champs looked like they might be on the ropes. However, after a pair of wins at home in Games 3 and 4, Tampa Bay returned to New York on Thursday and the home team looked to hold serve. The home team was 4-0 in the first four games of this series, and Ryan Lindgren struck on an unassisted goal midway through the second period to break the ice. However, Mikhail Sergachev returned fire with an unassisted goal to tie things up going to the third period.

In the final two minutes of the game, it's all eyes on Ondrej Palat. The 208th pick in the final round of the 2011 NHL Draft continues to make a name for himself. He scored the game-winning goal with 1:50 left in regulation, making it 2-1. He is the first player in NHL history to post game-winning goals in the final two minutes of multiple games in a single postseason. Brandon Hagel notched an empty-net goal for insurance at 19:01 of the third.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced, and he also had the benefit of Ryan Strome missing a yawning empty net prior to Palat's game-winning goal late in the third period. Strome had a glorious pass from Andrew Copp, and Vasilevskiy was easily beaten, but No. 16 was unable to punch it home. The biggest punch of the night from the Rangers came from a red-shirted fan against a smack-talking Lightning guy. That fan is banned from Madison Square Garden for life, and the next home game for all other fans is likely not going to be until next season now.

NEW YORK RANGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 62-31-8
  • ATS: 53-48
  • O/U: 42-56-3

The Rangers have their backs to the wall after losing home-ice advantage in Game 5. That's the bad news. The good news is that this is an elimination game, and New York is a perfect 5-for-5 in these playoffs when facing elimination. Of course, they did that against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes, not the two-time defending Stanley Cup champs, especially in their barn.

New York is 1-5 in the past six games on the road, while going just 3-9 in the past 12 games as an underdog. It is also 17-35 in the past 52 games as a road 'dog, while going 17-41 in the past 58 playoff games as an underdog.

For totals, the UNDER has connected in four straight in this series, which isn't surprising given the fact we have two world-class goaltenders squaring off. The UNDER is also 5-1 in the past six on the road for the Blueshirts, while going 4-0 in the past four as an underdog.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 62-28-8
  • ATS: 48-50
  • O/U: 50-46-2

The Lightning are one win away from a return trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Tampa Bay had lost all three regular-season meetings, and the first five meetings overall against the Rangers, but it now has three consecutive victories, pushing New York to the brink.

The Lightning have a great ability to stack wins, too, going 7-1 in the past eight following a victory. They're also 9-2 in the past 11 games overall, and 39-15 in the past 54 at home.

The UNDER has hit in four straight games at home for the Lightning, while going 4-0 in the past four as a favorite, and 7-1 in the past eight games following a victory.

NEW YORK RANGERS vs. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING CONCLUSION

The Rangers have their backs to the wall, which is just where they have succeeded the most in these playoffs. But the young Rangers are facing a much better, deeper and experienced team in the Lightning. New York has made mistakes in the past three games, and the five-on-five scoring just hasn't been there. They've relied too much on the power play, and Vasilevskiy has showed up in the past few games after the stinker in Game 1.

How amazing would a third consecutive Game 7 for the Rangers be if they were able to win this game on the road? We'll never find out, as Tampa Bay is going to put them away Saturday evening, and set up a clash with the Colorado Avalanche in what should be a very entertaining battle for Lord Stanley's chalice.
