Betting on the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins have become synonymous with success as a highly popular NHL franchise. This long history of success has made the team a betting favorite both in Pittsburgh and around the legal US sportsbook industry.
Pittsburgh Penguins Overview
The Penguins joined the NHL in 1967 as part of the league’s major expansion efforts. The early seasons in the West and Norris Division featured multiple trips to the playoffs. Yet, none of those teams advanced past the quarterfinals round.
That all changed in 1991 with the team’s first of five Stanley Cup Championships. After beating the Minnesota North Stars in six games in that championship series, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup again in 1992 by beating the Chicago Blackhawks in a four-game sweep.
The third championship run was in 2009 and the final two were back-to-back NHL titles in 2016 and 2017. Pittsburgh remains a perennial playoff contender playing in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division.
Pittsburgh’s honor role of famous NHL players is rather impressive to say the least. A few of the greats such as Mario Lemieux date back to earlier seasons. However, you could make a strong case that Sidney Crosby belongs at the top of this list. Joining the team in 2005, he has played his entire career with the Penguins.
Natural rivalries have formed with the Philadelphia Flyers over the years. You could also add the Washington Capitals to that list.
Betting Pittsburgh as a favorite on the moneyline remains popular with NHL bettors. If the Penguins were listed as heavy -175 home favorites, you would have to wager $175 to win $100 they go on to win that game.

Pittsburgh Penguins Partnership With Sportsbooks
Pennsylvania has quickly grown to become a major legal sports betting market in the US. As a result, numerous sportsbooks partnerships with professional sports teams in the Keystone State are part of the marketing plan.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are no exception with multiple sponsorship deals with BetRivers and Rivers Casino. BetRivers is the ‘official sportsbook’ of the team and BetRivers Casino is the ‘official casino’ partner.
The deal with BetRivers was one of the first strategic partnerships between a NHL team and a US-based sports betting operator. It dates back to October of 2020.
