Betting on the Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators are officially called the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, but are colloquially known as the Sens. This extremely famous NHL hockey team is one of the most popular NHL teams in Canada. So, you should be curious to learn all you can about betting on the Ottawa Senators.
History of the Ottawa Senators
In the National Hockey League, the Ottawa Senators are in the Eastern Conference as a member of the Atlantic Division. The Senators play their home games at the Canadian Tire Centre, which was opened in 1996. The Ottawa Senators were founded and established by Bruce Firestone, a real estate developer in Ottawa.
This team is actually the second franchise in the NHL to go by the name the Ottawa Senators. In 1883, the original Ottawa Senators were founded, they were actually a founding NHL franchise. They would go on to win 11 Stanley Cup Championships during their time in the NHL, from 1917 to 1934.
The current Ottawa Senators were founded in the early 1990s. In December of 1990, following a public campaign that went on for two years from Firestone, the NHL awarded a new franchise. The new Ottawa Senators began playing for the 1992-1993 season.
This new incarnation of the team has made sixteen appearances in the playoffs, won four division titles, and won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2003. In 2007, they also made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. Some of the most notable players for the Senators have been Radek Bonk, Bryan Berard, Chris Phillips, Alexei Yashin, and Marian Hossa.
The Ottawa Senators are not the only team based out of the province of Ontario. The Toronto Maple Leafs are also an NHL franchise based out of Ontario. As a result of this proximity, the two teams have a rivalry known as the Battle of Ontario.
A wager you can find fairly often in the NHL is a moneyline bet. A moneyline bet is you try to choose the team that you think will be the winners at the end of the game. This is an example of what a moneyline bet can look like:
- Ottawa Senators: -110
- Toronto Maple Leafs: +110
When using the above example, the favored team to triumph is the Ottawa Senators with odds of -110. That means for every $1 you are looking to win, you would need to risk $1.10, to wager $110 to win $100. The underdog team in this faceoff, the Toronto Maple Leafs, has odds of +110. That means for every $1 risked, you could win $1.10, to wager $100 to win $110.
