EPL Matchday 13 Picks, Predictions, Odds
Andrew Beasley is back for best bets, predictions and picks for Premier League Matchday 13 fixtures that begin on Saturday, October 22nd.
Nottingham Forest vs. Liverpool
- Date: Saturday, October 22
- Time: 7:30 a.m. ET
- Venue: The City Ground
- Location: Nottingham, England
Best Bet: Liverpool to Win to Nil (+110)
Liverpool are not a team who are too accustomed to winning matches 1-0, yet that is what they did in their previous two league matches.
It was only the third time they have triumphed in back-to-back EPL matches by this score line in the Jürgen Klopp era. Another fixture they’ve won 1-0 this year was in an FA Cup match at Nottingham Forest last season.
Such has been the turnover at players for the home side that any comparison is largely worthless, However, with the visitors’ defence looking stronger this week and Forest struggling for goals, a Liverpool win to nil looks a decent selection.
Everton vs. Crystal Palace
- Date: Saturday, October 22
- Time: 10:00 a.m. ET
- Venue: Goodison Park
- Location: Liverpool, England
Best Bet: Draw(+225)
Crystal Palace have a wretched recent record at Goodison Park, drawing three and losing four of their last four visits to the blue half of Merseyside.
However, they were 2-0 up in this fixture in May before going down 3-2, probably due to having nothing to play for when Everton were fighting for their Premier League safety.
And with Frank Lampard’s side having lost their last three while the Eagles have earned seven points in that period, recent form is on their side. Only two teams in the division have drawn more than these two sides and it feels like another tied game could occur here.
Manchester City vs. Brighton
- Date: Saturday, October 22
- Time: 10:00 a.m. ET
- Venue: Etihad Stadium
- Location: Manchester, England
Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals (+124)
You have to feel for Brighton. Manchester City come in to this game on the back of both a defeat and a match in which Erling Haaland did not score. You can’t see them experiencing either of those outcomes too often this season, and they will be fired up to bounce back from their defeat at Liverpool.
That they will win on Saturday and score a few seems without doubt. However, the Seagulls have had 54 shots worth 5.2 expected goals in their last three games without finding the net, so are due a goal or two themselves. This should be a high scoring clash so over 3.5 goals is a decent option.
Chelsea vs. Manchester United
- Date: Saturday, October 22
- Time: 12:30 p.m. ET
- Venue: Stamford Bridge
- Location: London, England
Best Bet: Manchester United ML (+250)
Chelsea’s home record in matches against other members of the Premier League’s big six clubs is abysmal. Since the start of 2020/21 they have hosted 11 such fixtures and only won one of them.
Manchester United arrive in west London on the back of their best performance under Erik ten Hag, and in truth their best for far longer than his time in charge too. Their 2-0 win against Tottenham could easily have been by a wider margin.
Chelsea boss Graham Potter has overseen one win over United already this season, with former club Brighton, but the underlying numbers make the visitors an excellent value choice.
Aston Villa vs. Brentford
- Date: Sunday, October 23
- Time: 9:00 a.m. ET
- Venue: Villa Park
- Location: Birmingham, England
Best Bet: Both Teams to Score, No (+110)
It’s hard to know how Aston Villa will react to the sacking of Steven Gerrard, as there is such little time between their 3-0 loss at Fulham and this fixture. The supporters wanted the former Rangers manager to go so they should be up for this at least.
While we can’t be certain of the outcome, what we do know is that the visit of Brentford sees a team who struggles to create good chances at home hosting one who can often be blunt on the road. At least one of them should draw a blank so take the ‘no’ in the both teams to score market.
West Ham vs. Bournemouth
- Date: Monday, October 24
- Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
- Venue: London Stadium
- Location: London, England
Best Bet: West Ham to Win to Nil (+150)
Although West Ham have been having quite an erratic season, their defensive form has been largely sound. Going into the weekend, only five teams in the division have conceded fewer goals and three of them are in the top four.
They should’ve scored more goals too, with their penalty miss at Anfield in midweek a perfect summary of their wastefulness. They will get opportunities against Bournemouth and though the Cherries’ form is decent, West Ham can win this one to nil.
