Netherlands vs. USA Best Bets
The 2022 World Cup knockout stage or what's also referred to as the Round of 16 will kick off on Saturday Dec. 3 with a match between Netherlands, winners of Group A, against the runner-ups in Group B, USA.
Netherlands vs. USA Picks & Score Predictions
The Dutch topped Group A with seven points out of nine but were far from convincing. A couple of 2-0 wins that hardly set the world alight were sandwiched a troubling 1-1 draw with the eliminated Ecuador.
The USA left it late in Group B with an agonizing 1-0 win over Iran on Tuesday that sent them through in 2nd place. It wasn't pretty but Gregg Berhalter’s men did enough. Things only get more difficult from here on starting with this one.
The bookies are expecting a low-scoring game and it’s hard to disagree. There’s a feeling that the Netherlands are a side suited to knockout football. They’re solid defensively and capable of grabbing a goal or two when needed. A 1-0 Dutch win looks realistic out at +550.
Score Predictions:
Netherlands 1 USA 0 (+550)
Netherlands vs. USA Best Bets
I expect this one to play out much like the Iran-USA match in the group stage. The USMNT should see a decent amount of the ball but the difference here is the quality of the opposition. This is a tough Dutch defense to break down so under 20.5 total match shots looks good at -110 odds.
Under 2.5 total match goals is the play and if my 1-0 result holds, Under 1.5 with a generous return provides value too..

Netherlands Betting Outlook & Players to Watch
Does any World Cup squad have more options in defense than the Netherlands?
Virgil van Dijk, Jurrien Timber and Nathan Ake have been deployed in a back three in the last two. Matthijs de Ligt only started the opener but Stefan de Vrij hasn’t played a minute.
Frenkie de Jong adds the technical quality in the middle and Cody Gakpo has been the main threat going forward. The PSV man has scored in every Netherlands game so far. He’s the only player to score in all three group games in this tournament. He’s at +333 to score anytime which looks good value.
Expect the Dutch to have plenty of the ball. The US pressed Wales and Iran but sat back and let England have a little more time on the ball. They knew the English could pass through the press and so allowed five of their defenders to complete 60 or more passes.
It will be a similar story here. Nathan Ake (72.5, -120) and Virgil Van Dijk (67.5, -120) are both good options for overs on passing as is Jurrien Timber.
USA Betting Outlook & Players to Watch
The American eyes are on Christian Pulisic ahead of this one. The talismanic attacker grabbed the goal that sent the US here. Pulisic is still an injury doubt for this one and the obvious pick to grab a goal for the USMNT. He’s at +450 to get a goal any time.
With that in mind, there are other options to look at. Timothy Weah has been one of the standout options and should Pulisic not play, will be even more important. He ha two shots against Iran, only Josh Sargent had more. There’s a feeling that Sargent will have a tougher time through the middle than Weah on the right. Weah is at +225 to have over 1.5 shots in the game which looks good too.
