Canada's sports betting package is rolled out, and now users in their provinces can get online and bet on a new variety of games and markets, including single wagers. For Albertans, that app is PlayAlberta, the ALGC's proprietary website and app offering all kinds of gambling.
However, to keep pace with some other provinces like Ontario, Alberta will expand their market to allow for two commercial operators. We've got everything you need, including news updates regarding legal betting in Alberta.

BEST ALBERTA SPORTSBOOKS
PLAYALBERTA
PlayAlberta is the lottery-run betting solution in the province. However, there's strong indication that Alberta will give retail casinos the opportunity to provide mobile sports betting apps for their customers, opening up the market. If and when that happens, we may see some big names in legal online sports betting enter the Alberta market, including the following:
BETWAY
Started in 2006, Betway has become a global heavyweight, and this is good news for the Alberta sports betting sector. The offerings compare well with other Alberta sportsbooks, giving bettors a great spread to pick from across a decent range of sports. Alberta sports betting apps have become very popular, and the Betway app fits the bill for bettors who are on the move. It’s got full functionality across the board and fits in well with Betway’s general approach for betting in Alberta.
PINNACLE
Pinnacle bucks the trend of most Alberta sports betting providers. No big adverts, and no eye-catching bonuses. Since 1998, it’s invested in better odds for more loyal customers, and the long game seems to be working.
The betting options are good, with comprehensive coverage. Alberta online sports betting fans benefit from live betting options, esports, and more. It takes care of their customers with 24/7 contact options, as well as competitive banking options throughout.
SPORTS INTERACTION
Locally licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission of Quebec, Sports Interaction has been around since 1997. It provides markets solely to Canada, making it a strong contender to be a potential Alberta online sports betting website in the near future.
Given the solid platform and round-the-clock customer care, it ranks well among betting sites. There has already been an expansion to the scope of Sports Interaction's services in Ontario. Fans of Alberta sports betting apps should test out the mobile functionality of the browser site before judging: it’s slick and works well.

We have compiled a list of apps that are potentially going to launch in Alberta. These are not live yet, but may be in the future!
ALBERTA BETTING LAWS
For a while, Alberta's lottery offered a small selection of parlay bets underneath Canada's limited sports betting allocation. After 2020, however, governments all across the world, including Canada saw the need to bring revenues to state and provincial coffers.
This boost came in the form of C-218, a bill that eventually garnered bipartisan support and, later, full Royal Assent. This bill (now law) allowed for Canada to offer and tax single-game wagers, essentially giving Canadian bettors access to the same scope of legal bets available in the US.
Now that single wagers are legal in Canada, it's expected that Alberta will not only offer bets on the ALGC's PlayAlberta website, but potentially offer two sporting venues the opportunity to offer mobile apps down the line. We'll keep you posted with all these changes as they develop.
ALBERTA SPORTS BETTING NEWS UPDATES
Alberta Plans to Expand Legal Sports Betting Dec. 16, 2021 The Canadian province of Alberta has just released plans for the expansion of commercial sports betting in conjunction with pro sports teams. |
ALBERTA ONLINE SPORTS BETTING: EVENTS AND BETTING MARKETS
Alberta betting sites see a massive preference for hockey, which is not very surprising. The NHL traffic dominates across Canada, hands down. However, Alberta online sports betting caters to nearly every major event and league across the US, Canada, and globally.
From the NFL to cricket, the odds are there for the bettor. Betting in Alberta has kept pace with recent developments across all the major leagues across the globe. This makes Alberta online sports betting a vibrant and compelling environment for bettors.
Most vendors will provide certain markets, events, and odds but won’t have every option on every game. As the Alberta sports betting market matures and expands, users will have more choice with events and markets that they didn't have before the passage of C-218 and the legalization of single-event wagering.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON BETTING IN ALBERTA
Alberta sports betting is entering a new phase with the addition of single event wagering. As a result, there aren't that many available choices in the province: you can get online with the AGLC's website to bet, and that's it. However, there's increasing talk of offering sports venues the ability to release mobile apps and offer in-person sports betting, which would open the market.
We're hoping that Alberta does indeed move forward with a competitive market of apps, but until then, PlayAlberta is your only way to bet in the province.
It’s worth also taking a moment to reflect on our responsibilities as bettors: bet with your head, not over it, and take advantage of your preferred sportsbook's responsible gaming features like cooling off methods, which they are required by law to provide.
