The Seattle Storm will take on the host Las Vegas Aces in Game 2 of the WNBA semifinals on Wednesday night. Tip off is slated for 10 p.m. ET from Michelob ULTRA Arena. Coverage will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
The No. 4 Storm stole Game 1 from the top seed with a 76-73 victory in front of an Aces playoff-record crowd of 9,944. Jewell Loyd paced the Storm with 26 points including their final six points and the go-ahead free throw with 1:16 remaining. Loyd also drained a clutch jumper with 34 seconds to go and had 10 of the Storm’s 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Associated Press MVP Breanna Steward recorded 24 points and six rebounds for the Storm. Tina Charles tallied 13 points as well as a franchise playoff-record 18 rebounds. Retiring Storm legend Sue Bird dished out 12 assists with no turnovers. On Bird’s last assist, she surpassed Lindsay Whalen (341) for most playoff assists in WNBA history.
Chelsea Gray guided the Aces with 21 points. Kelsey Plum scored 20 points and missed the game-tying 3-point shot with 2.9 seconds left. Jackie Young chipped in 11 points for the Aces. Aces standout A’ja Wilson was limited to eight points on 3-for-10 shooting.
The Storm blanked the Aces in fastbreak points 16-0. The Storm also shut out the Aces in fastbreak points 5-0.
The winner of this series will advance to the WNBA Finals against either the defending champion Chicago Sky or Connecticut Sun. The Sun is up 1-0 in the series heading into Game 2 on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET/ESPN).
The well-balanced Storm offense featured five players that averaged double digits in points during the regular season. Stewart led the WNBA in points (21.8) and was tied for fourth in the league in steals (1.6). Stewart also led the Storm in rebounds (7.6). Ezi Magbegor averaged 9.5 points while being second in the league in blocks (1.8). Loyd was second in points (16.3) on the Storm. Bird was tops in assists (6.0) and averaged 1.2 steals.
In the regular season, the Storm ranked tied for first in three-point percentage (36.1), fifth in points per game (82.5), sixth in field goal percentage (44.2). The Storm ranked first defensively in the WNBA in fast break points allowed (8.4), second in points off turnovers (13.6), and third in defensive rating (97.4).
The explosive Aces had four players averaging double digits in points in the regular season. Plum was second in the WNBA at 20.2 points per game. Wilson was fifth in the league in points (19.5), second in rebounds (9.4) and first in blocks (1.9). Gray was fourth in the WNBA with 6.1 assists and was also tied for fourth in steals (1.6).
During the regular season, the high-powered Aces led the league in points per game (90.4) tied for first in three-point percentage (36.1), while being third in field goal percentage (46.0). Defensively, the Aces were first in defensive rebounds (28.4) and points off turnovers (13.0), second in second-chance points (8.9), as well as sixth in defensive rating (102.0).
The Aces are favored by 5.5 points against the Storm in Game 2. For the money line, it’s Storm +200 and Aces -250. The over/under is set for 169.5 points with the price at -110 each way.
Look for the stingy Storm to muck up the game on defense to cover the spread. However, the Aces should tie the series behind a strong bounceback performance from Wilson.
