If the Los Angles Angels and their interim manager Phil Nevin are going to get back in the American League East race, the three-game series that starts Friday night in Houston (8:10 ET) is an important step.

The Astros lead the division by 11.5 games over Texas with the Halos a game behind them, tied for third with Seattle.

Friday's total opened at eight and is -110 either way. The Astros are -160 and +130 on the run line. Los Angeles is +150, but if you take those 1.5 runs, it’ll drop to -150. Borgata’s line makers have set the guest’s team total at 3.5. You’re laying -115 no matter which way you lean. Houston’s run production is pegged at 4.5, and it’s at -125 if you’re going with the four or less. Your line is -105 If you think they’ll pass that number.

Nevin has helped stabilize the team after that long losing streak, and they're currently sitting at four games below .500 (37-41). This is the first of a nine-game road trip for the Angels coming off a 4-5 home stand that was marred by the bench clearing brawl against the Mariners. They’ve scored four or less runs in their last six.

On their last road trip, they went 4-3, scored four or less in all of them and allowed two or less in five of those seven. They’re 16-18 away from home this year.

Michael Lorenzen (6-5) gets the start in the opener. His season era is 4.24 with a WHIP of 1.26, and he’s averaging 5.2 innings per start. He only went three innings in a loss to the Mariners, allowing four hits, four walks, and two earned runs. In June, he’s pitched 20 innings and given up 22 hits with 13 free passes going 1-3.

How Well Is Houston Playing?

They’re currently 21 games over .500 sitting atop their division at 48-27. They started this home stand with a 2-1 win over the Yankees, and they’re 21-11 at Minute Maid Park this year. Visiting New York was enjoyable for these Texans, as they went 4-2 against the Mets and Yankees and allowed just one run or less in four of those.

On the previous home stand, they scored four or more runs in four of five and five or more in three of them. Only one of those contests saw the other team score more than three times.

The Astros will send Cristian Javier (5-3) to the hill. His season numbers (2.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP) are stellar. You may have heard about his last start at Yankee Stadium where he went seven hitless, and his buddies in the bullpen helped seal a combined no-hitter. In his last two starts, he’s given up one earned run in 12 innings of work.

This one seems easy on paper. Of course, they always look easy on paper, but Houston is playing great on the field too. Once you’re done betting that $20, with the VICOMBONUS promo code, on Houston at home, take them on the run line as well. Do the same thing for the first five innings, and hopefully Javier will keep his string of hitless innings going for another game.
