Online sports betting remains illegal in South Carolina.
WHY CAN'T I BET ON SPORTS ONLINE IN SC?
Simply put, it hasn't been prioritized by South Carolina legislators. The state has only one form of gambling, the state-run lottery, established in 2002 to funnel revenue into education budgets. However, you can still play DFS in South Carolina. We'll break down what is actually available in the state and what you can bet on, both in-person and online:

SOUTH CAROLINA DAILY FANTASY SPORTS (DFS)
Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) lets players make daily picks and get payouts very similarly to full-season fantasy play. However, you can make your picks and get a payout in one day! Sports like NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL PGA, MLS, and more are available.
BEST SOUTH CAROLINA SPORTSBOOKS - WHAT’S LEGAL?
South Carolina flirted with the idea of opening up legal sports betting a few times, but so far, nothing meaningful has developed. The most recent attempt to legalize was in 2020, and nothing really came to fruition.
House Joint Resolution 3395 would have been the constitutional amendment bill that opened up casino gambling and sports betting in the Palmetto State, but as is the fate of many bills, in died in committee before ever really getting its day in court. Many sports wagering bills go that way, as committees within their state legislatures must decide to vote on a bill, and, similarly, can decide not to.
We're hoping to see legal betting come to South Carolina soon, but it's not likely yet.
SOUTH CAROLINA RETAIL SPORTSBOOKS
As stated previously, there are no retail sportsbooks in the state. Unfortunately, until any meaningful legislation passes, the only limited options for any kind of gambling will be one riverboat casino which has a complicated history with staying legal in the state of South Carolina.
SOUTH CAROLINA BETTING: EVENTS & BETTING MARKETS
In South Carolina, there are a woefully limited number of options for legal betting, and until the laws change, attempting to place real-money bets on sports or casino games isn't really recommended. However, we're keeping our fingers crossed that the laws change soon, and if sportsbooks in other states are any indicator, legal betting should come to SC soon.
TYPE OF BETS
When you are finally able to place a real-money sports bet in SC, the following are expected to be available:
- Moneyline bets on a team to win a match
- Parlays, allowing you to bet on multiple events and get a bigger payoff if all your "legs" hit
- Totals bets on the overall score
- Spread bets on the point difference
