PLAYNOW PARTNERS WITH THE CANUCKS FOR MONTHLY PROMOTION

is the online sports betting and gaming operator for the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). As a way to boost business for the month of January, it has launched a special promotion in conjunction with the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks.

Known as the “Canucks Fanuary Contest”, online sports bettors in that Canadian province can enhance their bets on NHL games.

Bettors placing a minimum $5 (CAD) on any NHL game becomes eligible to win one of 15 prize packages in the month of January. Each prize package will be awarded after a Canucks’ game. Entries are limited to one per day.

These prize packages cover quite a bit of ground. Winners will receive signed Canucks’ jerseys, club seats to future Vancouver games and a $750 credit towards merchandise at the Canucks’ team store.

One additional prize includes credit vouchers to play blackjack at Parq Casino Vancouver as a gaming tie-in.

The contest’s grand prize will be drawn on Feb. 3. The winner will receive six Canucks Loge Box tickets for the team’s game against the Washington Capitals on March 11. This includes a private tour of Rogers Arena and a one-night stay at Parq Casino with a dinner featuring a former team player.

The timing of this promotion could not have been any better. The Canucks are making a strong push towards a playoff spot in the NHL’s Western Division with an 8-1-1 mark over a 10-game span leading into this month.

PlayNow.com directly benefits from the team through its sizable fan base. Along with the CFL’s British Columbia Lions, these are the two biggest professional sports franchises in the province.

PlayNow also remains BC’s only regulated online gambling website. The majority of the sports betting volume at the site gravitates towards wagers on local teams.

Betting on the NFL is also quite popular throughout Canada. Planning ahead, PlayNow will be offering a $250 matching deposit bonus to its players ahead of Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, Feb. 13.

Excitement for sports betting has been exploding in Canada with the legalization of single-game wagers on Aug. 27 of last year. In the first two months since this type of wager became legal, the BCLC took in more than $25 million in wagers on individual games and sporting events.

A few of the other provinces in Canada have plans to expand the market with the addition of commercial sportsbooks. For the time being, British Columbia appears to be content with the BCLC and PlayNow as the only game in town.
