In several provinces, a new set of offerings for retail Canada sports betting has become available. But, a lot of money is not expected to go down through them. A bolstered set of Canadian sports betting products has been announced from Scientific Games.
This is going to be released in conjunction with the Western Canada Lottery Corp. This product is available in both the provinces as well as the territories that are serviced by the Western Canada Lottery Corp. These include Saskatchewan, Alberta, as well as Manitoba.
The Western Canada Lottery Corp President of IT, Tedda Sandercock, indicated how proud the entity is of the hard work from teams at both the Scientific Games and the WCLC. Tedda also indicated that the work was intended to rejuvenate western Canada’s sports betting experience as well as to introduce futures, real-time odds, as well as single-game betting. This release hopes to integrate new sports betting functionality with the existing gaming system to give players a new type of Canada sports betting experience.
The Western Canada Lottery Corp.’s lottery offering is limiting bets to $100, however, which does temper its appeal. The lottery sports wagering product from Scientific Games has now been integrated into the central system for the Western Canada Lottery Corp. So, bettors will be able to bet at retail outlets with lottery products on single sports events.
Players are able to make their picks using odds in real-time in order to generate a QR code that they are able to take to a lottery retailer to purchase a ticket by using the new functionality for ticket building located online at sportselect.com. Sandercock indicated how excited the two entities are to offer this new online approach to creating a betting slip, which is supposed to be more convenient. And, the traditional ticket building method at retail lottery outlets will remain as well.
In November, the Western Canada Lottery Corp. updated its online offerings at Sports Select. These were amended to include single-game sports betting. And, previously in the year, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis also launched sports wagering through PlayAlberta.
Earlier in December, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis released an RFP. This was for two commercial sports betting operators to be able to operate retail sportsbooks in the province. In the future, Alberta may be able to operate commercial online sportsbooks too.
Another entity that runs lottery products in Western Canada is the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, which launched on August 27th. From then until early November, PlayNow from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation handled over $25 million in wagers.
In the beginning of legal single-event sports betting in Canada, the monopoly the lottery had for sports betting created pricing issues in Alberta. A similar issue was seen in the lottery-controlled betting landscapes in the United States sports betting markets like Washington D.C. and Montana.
