The Canadian province of Ontario recently opened up its sports betting market to commercial operators. This development has paved the way for a landmark partnership between MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays and theScore Bet.
As the first of its kind in the country, the 10-year agreement makes theScore Bet the Exclusive Gaming Partner of the Toronto Blue Jays. This is theScore Bet’s first partnership with a professional sports team. This will be the only sports betting partnership for the Blue Jays given the exclusive nature of the deal.
This partnership was a natural fit with both entities based in the Toronto market. The Blue Jays are the only MLB franchise north of the border and a very popular draw throughout the country. As a subsidiary of Penn National Gaming, the Score Bet remains a home-grown entity with local roots.
As the official gaming partner of the team, theScore Bet has exclusive marketing rights across all forms of legal gaming in Canada. This includes sports betting, casino, iGaming and fantasy sports.
A centerpiece of this partnership includes a strong presence at Rogers Centre as the home field of the Blue Jays. Plans call for a co-branded sports bar and restaurant at the stadium that will operate year round. This facility will create a major entertainment destination for the entire city of Toronto.
Other sponsorship elements of this deal include in-stadium promotions for Blue Jays fans. To further enhance theScore Bet’s physical presence in Rogers Centre, there will be two branded seating sections adjacent to the first and third baselines.
Mark Shapiro is the President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays. He relayed the following thoughts on this historic partnership:
“The fan experience is evolving and this monumental partnership with theScore Bet offers compelling new ways for sports enthusiasts to be part of the game. We are excited to be partnering with a Canadian company that operates at the highest level of the industry and understands our role in Toronto and Canada to bring baseball to more fans nationwide.”
Also expressing his feelings on the new agreement was theScore Bet CEO John Levy. Those comments included:
“theScore bet is proudly Canadian and we are thrilled to make Canada’s baseball team our long-term partner. This is a foundational partnership with a team and organization that is deeply embedded in our country’s sports culture. Teaming with the Blue Jays opens up exciting and new exclusive marketing opportunities and brings theScore Bet even closer to a huge audience of passionate and engaged fans, both on-site at Rogers Centre and online across our platforms.”
With Penn National Gaming as its parent company, theScore Bet was launched in Ontario as an online sportsbook and iGaming casino product. The gaming app is a direct byproduct of the company’s flagship media property theScore.
