Cost of Hotel and Airbnb Accommodations for the 2024 Thanksgiving Parade
As the holidays get closer, a lot of people have their sights set on New York City for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. With so many visitors coming in for this yearly tradition, hotel prices are definitely a hot topic.
Whether you prefer an Airbnb or a hotel using sites such as Booking.com, understanding the price dynamics around the parade can save you from unexpected costs.

Airbnb Prices Rise 6.22% Week Of Thanksgiving Parade
If you're thinking about staying in an Airbnb, the data shows some slight ups and downs in prices. Before the parade (November 21-22), the average cost is around $221.61, with 276 places available.
During the week of the parade (November 28-29), prices go up a bit—about 6.22%—bringing the average to $235.38.
After the parade, though, Airbnb rates drop to $197.34 from December 5-6, which is a 16.16% decrease compared to the week of the parade. So, if you're able to stick around after the rush, you might score a better deal!
Booking.com Prices Shoot up 26.14% The Week Of The Parade
Booking.com tells a different story. Before the parade, the average price is much higher, sitting at $365.68 with 474 places available.
During the parade week, prices shoot up by 26.14% to $461.27, with 403 bookings still open.
Interestingly, after the parade (December 5-6), prices don’t drop—instead, they jump even more to $649.58, with 389 spots available. That’s a 40.83% increase from parade week. This could be due to people preparing for holiday events in New York City, like the Christmas Spirit Cruise, The Nutcracker by the New York City Ballet, and more.
The Grand Average for Airbnb and Bookings.com surges 18.16% The Week Of The Parade
When you combine both Airbnb and Booking.com, the overall average price comes to around $378.47 across 2,094 places.
Before Thanksgiving, the average cost between both platforms starts at $312.66, jumping 18.16% to $369.45 during the parade.
After the parade, prices keep rising, hitting an average of $461.89, which is a 25.02% increase compared to parade week.
Methodology
This analysis looks at how Airbnb and Booking.com prices change around the time of the Thanksgiving Parade, using specific data to show the price differences. We pulled together a dataset that shows average prices, the number of available places, and how prices shift depending on when you're planning to stay—before, during, or after the parade.
Data Collection:
- Data was grouped by three periods: before the parade (November 21-22), during the parade (November 28-29), and after the parade (December 5-6).
- Key metrics included average price per platform, total accommodations available, timing of the bookings, and percentage changes in prices between these periods.
Price Analysis:
- We calculated average prices for each period by dividing the sum of all reported accommodation prices by the number of accommodations in that period.
- Percentage increase or decrease in prices was determined by comparing the average price of each period with the previous period.
Total Average Calculation:
- A grand average price was computed across both platforms and all periods.
- Total accommodations across all periods and platforms were combined to give a full view of available options for travelers.
