Texas Falls Short In Comparison To Highly Populated States

California and Florida are neck and neck, as they emerge as the frontrunners in this competition with a search percentage of 0.86%. Boasting the largest and third-largest populations in the U.S, both states soar above the national average in terms of Mother's Day preparations which sits at 0.76%.  But here's the kicker: smaller states like Nevada, Maryland, and New Jersey, despite their lower population rankings, match the love percentage of Texas at 0.82%, even though Texas has the second highest population in the U.S!

The Rural Four

Montana, Vermont, Wyoming and West Virginia lag behind in Mother's Day preparedness, each with a search percentage of about  0.43%. Interestingly, despite Wyoming having the lowest population (576,851), it showed slightly better preparedness with 0.47% landing them #47 on the list of readiness. When looking at the bottom states in terms of enthusiasm, there’s something  they all have in common: they all are relatively rural states  compared to more urbanized states. So could it be that states with more metropolitan areas where it's easy to find a local florist shop, gift shops or even fancy brunch spots are better set for Mother’s Day?

Illinois Rules The Midwest in Motherly Love

Illinois shines as the state with the highest level of Mother's Day excitement amongst its neighboring states. Illinois bucks the trend with an impressive search rate of 0.79%, showcasing a deep-rooted appreciation for moms in the heart of the country. If you take a look at other Midwest states such as Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, the average search rate was only a measly 0.55%. So, shout out to Illinois for having 0.24% more excitement in the midwest when it comes to the celebration of  maternal figures.

A Close Call Between The Carolinas

The battle between the Carolinas was indeed a close one. Still, it looks like North Carolina tops South Carolina when it comes to mother appreciation, as North Carolina is prepping with about 0.68% Google searches, and South Carolina is just shy of 0.04% with  0.64% Google searches.

Vegas Insider's data analytics team conducted a comprehensive analysis to determine which states show the most love to their mothers by gathering population data for each state from Britannica.com. Then, tracked Google search terms such as "Mother's Day," "Mother's Day Gifts," "Happy Mother's Day," and "Mother's Day ideas" to gauge excitement about Mother's Day in each state. By comparing the number of searches to the population of each state, and calculated a percentage to rank their enthusiasm for Mother's Day celebration.
