Crazy for Caitlin

UPDATE 7 P.M. ET TUESDAY: Clark left Iowa as Division I college basketball's all-time leading scorer. So in her first regular-season game with Indiana, it's no surprise that the scoring prop bet is quite popular in the Caitlin Clark odds market.

The prop even drew some professional action at BetMGM, for tonight's highly anticipated 7:30 p.m. ET tipoff on ESPN2.

"We took some sharp money on Over 20.5, moving the prop to 21.5, where we're starting to see a few bets come in on the Under now. Nothing sharp on the Under yet," BetMGM trader Seamus Magee said earlier today.

However, 30 minutes pre-tipoff, Clark's point total is down to -20.5 again, with the Under a -135 favorite and Over an even-money 'dog.

In a related Caitlin Clark prop offering, BetMGM has her Over/Under on made 3-pointers at 3.5.

"There's plenty of action on Over 3.5 Clark 3s. However, her assists market at Over/Under 6.5 has seen pretty decent two-way action and slightly more interest among bettors so far," Magee said.

On the 3-pointer prop, Over 3.5 is a -135 favorite, while Under 3.5 is at +105. Earlier today, BetMGM had Clark's assists prop at Over 6.5 -130 and Under 6.5 even money. That's now flipped, with Under -125/Over -105.

Filling Up the Boxscore

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. ET TUESDAY: BetMGM also has props on Clark putting up a double-double or triple-double against the Sun. The public betting masses will like the prices on those a bit more, though it demonstrates that oddsmakers aren't expecting such a huge breakout from Clark in her pro debut.

The Yes/No on a Clark double-double is No -650/Yes +400. That's a significant shift from earlier today, when it was No -250/Yes +180. On a triple-double, No is a hefty -10000 favorite, with Yes a +2000 underdog. Earlier today, it was No -5000/Yes +1100.

More Caitlin Clark odds on the board at BetMGM:

  • Player to score first field goal (Clark +600)
  • Clark Over/Under 4.5 rebounds (Over -120)

Trickle-Up Effect

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. ET TUESDAY: Clark is also helping fuel interest in the Fever-Sun game overall. BetMGM's John Ewing noted this morning that there are three times more bets on Indiana vs. Connecticut than any of the other three WNBA season openers today.

Clark and the Fever opened as 5.5-point underdogs at BetMGM and are now out to +7.5 (-105) against the Sun.

"We're actually seeing really strong two-way action on the spread in this game. The Sun are taking slightly more money on the moneyline, with some bettors throwing that into parlays," Magee said.

The Action Network's Jim Turvey recommended fading the Fever and taking the Sun at -5.5 and -6.5, if you can still get -6.5 between now and tipoff. That's looking unlikely, as a couple sportsbooks are already out to Sun -8.5 (-105).
