2025 World Series Futures Odds: Dodgers the Favorite, Blue Jays No. 2
World Series odds for 2025 are getting more interesting, with the postseason now here. And as the playoffs get underway, there's been a change at the top again.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were favored almost all season. The Philadelphia Phillies took over that spot in mid-September and kept it into the Wild Card round. Now it's L.A. on top again, with the surging Toronto Blue Jays No. 2.

LATEST UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers were the favorite practically all season in BetMGM's World Series Futures odds. In fact, they were as short as +250 at the end of July.
By mid-September, the Dodgers were out to +475, though still the favorite. But as of Sept. 20, the surging Philadelphia Phillies were +450 chalk, with Los Angeles the +500 second choice.
With the Wild Card Playoffs complete and Los Angeles beating Cincinnati 2-0 in a best-of-3 series, it got even more interesting. That's because the Dodgers and Phillies are squaring off in the NLDS.
L.A. took Games 1 and 2 at Philly, and the Phillies rebounded to win Game 3. So BetMGM has the Dodgers as +200 chalk in World Series odds, followed by the Toronto Blue Jays at +310.
Regardless, there's plenty more company. Six of the seven remaining teams are +900 or shorter. And one win or one loss can dramatically shake things up.
"I think the assumption going into the year was the Dodgers were going to dominate throughout, and they'd be a clear favorite once we head into the postseason," BetMGM trader Hal Egeland said. "But the rest of the league has certainly closed the gap.
"Every team in the hunt has its flaws, and I think we're positioned to have a very competitive postseason. I can't recall this many teams in contention at this stage."
Trending Teams
LATEST UPDATE: Egeland noted two teams that bettors looked at late in the regular season. And it just so happens those two teams posted the two best records in all of MLB.
"The Brewers had the best record in baseball," Egeland said. "And the way the Phillies dismantled the Mets and ran away with the NL East definitely factored into the increase in action on Philly."
But as noted above, the Phillies are in a 2-1 hole vs. the Dodgers. As such, Philadelphia is now the +900 sixth choice in 2025 World Series odds.
On the flip side, Milwaukee has a 2-1 lead over the Chicago Cubs in their NLDS series. The Brew Crew are the +450 third choice in World Series futures. The Cubs are the +2200 seventh choice, last among the remaining teams.
"The Phillies remain a winner for us at the moment," Egeland said. "The Dodgers are just about break-even at the moment. They still take a decent amount of handle. But action has cooled off a bit."
Needs and Liabilities
LATEST UPDATE: With the postseason rolling toward the NLCS and ALCS, the Dodgers are slightly ahead of the Phillies in ticket count for World Series odds. The Detroit Tigers (+1300), New York Yankees (+1500) and New York Mets round out the top five in tickets.
But the Mets (83-79) failed to make the postseason, losing a tiebreaker to the Cincinnati Reds. And the Yankees just bowed out to Blue Jays, losing a best-of-5 ALDS in four games.
L.A. is more dominant in money, taking more than twice as much as No. 2 Philly. The Brewers, Yankees and Tigers are Nos. 3-5 in money, but again, New York is out of the running. Much to the chagrin of BetMGM.
"They'd actually be our best result," Egeland said before the ALDS.
So who is BetMGM rooting against?
"The Brewers wouldn't be a great result for us. They fit the mold of a team that can build up liability quickly. A team with relatively low expectations that rockets up the standings, leading to bettors getting some favorable pricing," Egeland said.
Indeed, the Brew Crew opened +3500 last October and could still be had at +2500 on July 21. As noted above, Milwaukee is now +450.
Flying Under the Radar
LATEST UPDATE: Egeland pointed to one team he thinks has the ability to be a sleeper team making a deep playoff run.
"I've been a believer of the Mariners all year," he said.
Seattle won the AL West. The Mariners and Tigers are tied 2-2 in their ALDS, with Game 5 Friday in Seattle. BetMGM now has the M's as the +650 fourth choice in World Series championship odds.

World Series Odds
The MLB World Series takes place in late October and is often referred to as the Fall Classic. World Series futures odds for each season are made shortly after the conclusion of the previous season, and sometimes even sooner.
Since the MLB regular season is the longest of the four major sports, bookmakers don’t make one team a decisive favorite over another prior to the season. You’ll usually see three to four teams have World Series Odds of +1000 or less.
The majority of the MLB teams will have future odds ranging from +1000 to +7000 or so. Then you start to get into longer shots, with some teams at +20000 (200/1) or more.
How Do I Bet On The World Series?
It’s very simple to bet on the World Series, since the MLB futures odds market is always open for business. To figure out your Win Amount, a bettor would take the betting odds offered on a team and multiply by the amount wagered.
For example: The Yankees are +700 (7/1) to win the World Series. A $100 wager would profit $700, for a total payout of $800.
