Betting on the Milwaukee Brewers

Despite being one of only a few franchises to never win a World Series title, the Brewers have carried momentum from the 2010s into the 2020s.

Milwaukee Brewers Franchise History

After spending one season as the Seattle Pilots, the franchise relocated and renamed itself the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970.

Success was hard to come by for the expansion team until it made back-to-back playoff appearances in the early ‘80s, including a World Series appearance in ’82. Unfortunately, Robin Yount and company fell short in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals.

For over two decades following the franchise’s lone American League pennant, it made zero postseason appearances. It wasn’t until the big bats of Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun led the club back to the playoffs in 2008 and again in 2011.

The Brewers often failed to reach the playoffs throughout much of the 2000s, but they were never a laughing stock or non-competitive. They were simply in sports purgatory, where they weren’t good enough to win a title and not bad enough to rebuild.

Milwaukee has strung together a nice run as of late on the backs of former MVP Christian Yelich and a strong rotation.

⚾ Betting on the Brewers in Wisconsin ⚾

Currently, there are no commercial sportsbooks in Wisconsin, but the Oneida Nation did accept the first ever sports wager in late-2021 at its Green Bay casino.

In addition to the Oneida Nation, the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino received approval to launch a retail sportsbook. It’s expected to go live at some point in 2022, and the tribe has even agreed to a partnership deal with the Brewers.

That makes two operational retail sportsbooks in Wisconsin, but there is no timeline for online sports betting. No bills have gained any traction among the state legislature, and it could be a ways away.

While the Badger State may not boast the same monetary potential as California or Texas, it is home to rabid fanbases of the Packers, Bucks, Brewers, and University of Wisconsin. Legal sports betting would almost certainly be popular among fans.

At one of the retail sportsbooks, or one day through a mobile app, Wisconsin bettors can expect to see something like this:

  • Milwaukee Brewers -1.5
  • Chicago Cubs +1.5

Here, the Brewers are favored by 1.5 runs against the Cubs. Brewers bettors need the team to take down the Cubs by at least two runs.

If the Brewers win by just 1 run, or lose altogether, a bettor’s wager would settle as a loss, and the Cubs would cover the runline spread.
