The Broncos fell to the Seattle Seahawks 17-16 on Monday Night Football in Week 1. With the Broncos down by 1 on fourth-and-5 in Seattle territory, Denver elected to kick a 64-yard field goal, instead of going for it. Brandon McManus missed the kick with under 20 seconds left.
In his return to Seattle, Russell Wilson went 29-for-42 for 340 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Wilson connected with wide receiver Jerry Jeudy in the second quarter for a 67-yard touchdown.
The Texans’ offense is ranked tied 17th in points per game (20.0), while also being 17th in passing yards (222.0), and 23rd in rushing yards (77.0). Mills has a quarterback rating of 98.9 and has been sacked three times.
Wide receiver Brandon Cooks leads the Texans with seven receptions for 82 yards and four first downs. Both of Howard’s catches were touchdowns for a total of 38 yards. Running back Rex Burkhead has 14 carries for 40 yards and a first down. Running back Dameon Pierce has totaled 33 yards on his 11 carries with two first downs.
The Texans’ defense ranks tied for 17th in points per game allowed (20.0). Defensive end Jerry Hughes has notched three tackles, two sacks, a tackle for a loss, an interception, and a forced fumble. Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill is tops for the Texans with 18 tackles, along with a tackle for loss and a pass deflection. Safety Jonathan Owens has recorded 15 tackles and a pass deflection. Safety Jalen Pitre has collected 11 tackles. Linebacker Christian Kirksey has nine tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Broncos’ offense ranks third in passing yards (330.0), tied for 16th in rushing yards (103.0), and 26th in points per game (16.0). Wilson has a quarterback rating of 101.3 and has been sacked twice. Jeudy has tallied four receptions for 102 yards, a touchdowns, and three first downs. Running back Javonte Williams has rushed for 43 yards and three first downs, while catching 11 passes for 65 yards and three first downs.
Wide receiver Courtland Sutton has amassed four receptions for 72 yards, one reception of over +20 yards, and three first downs. Running back Melvin Gordon has collected 58 yards and two first downs while having a fumble in 12 carries.
Defensively, the Broncos rank eighth in points per game allowed (17.0). Linebacker Alex Singleton and safety Justin Simmons lead the Broncos with nine tackles apiece. Simmons has also recovered a fumble. Linebacker Bradley Chubb is tops for the Broncos with two sacks for 18 yards, along with a forced fumble. Cornerback Ronald Darby has six tackles and a forced fumble. Linebacker Randy Gregory has a forced fumble.
As of Sept. 15, players on the Texans’ injury list include defensive end Rasheem Green (questionable), defensive tackle Maliek Collins (questionable), cornerback Isaac Yiadom (questionable), and tight end Brevin Jordan (questionable).
Prior to Sept. 16, some players on the injury list for the Broncos include Simmons (IR), Gregory (questionable), defensive tackle DeShawn Williams (questionable), wide receiver KJ Hamler (questionable), and linebacker Josey Jewell (questionable).
The Broncos are favored by 10 points against the Texans. For the money line, it’s Texans +375 and Broncos -500. The over/under is set for 45 points. Figure on the over occurring with the Broncos’ offense coming alive.
