Super Bowl odds for 2024-25 are starting to get more attention, with the NFL season underway. And oddsmakers clearly like two teams more than the rest.

The two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs are favorites in odds to win the Super Bowl. The defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers are the second choice. But there's a sizable gap to the next group of teams.

Kansas City is fortunate to be 2-0 SU, and injury riddled San Francisco is 1-1 SU. But those two teams are clearly the cream of the crop in oddsmakers' eyes.

The Chiefs are the +450 favorite in BetMGM's odds to win Super Bowl 59. That matches K.C.'s post-Week 1 price, after a win over the Baltimore Ravens. Kansas City opened as the +750 second choice back in February.

San Fran opened as +500 chalk, despite losing to K.C. in The Super Bowl 25-22 in overtime. The Niners were +550 after Week 1 and are now +600.

No other team is shorter than 11/1 on BetMGM's Super Bowl 59 odds board.

"I think that shows how distant these teams are from the rest of the field," BetMGM senior trader Tristan Davis said. "Despite San Francisco having a loss, they are without their best player. And they're in a division which is not overly strong."

Indeed, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) is on injured reserve. He missed Weeks 1 and 2, and he won't return before Week 6 vs. Seattle. And wideout Deebo Samuel (calf) was hurt in the Week 2 loss at Minnesota, likely keeping him out in Week 3.

For that matter, the Chiefs have a key injury issue, too. Running back Isiah Pacheco suffered a fractured fibula in Week 2 and is out six to eight weeks. But again, injuries to both teams aren't yet turning off oddsmakers.

Trending Teams

Arguably one of the bigger surprises through two weeks: the New Orleans Saints, who are scoring at a prolific rate. In Week 1, the Saints drilled league doormat Carolina 47-10, which maybe drew a little attention.

But Week 2 was much more eye-opening. New Orleans went to Dallas as a 6-point underdog and rolled 44-19.

"The Saints for sure are trending. Bettors are getting excited about them," Davis said. "Two wins, and Derek Carr is playing really well."

Carr hasn't racked up a ton of passing yards, at just 443 through two games. But he's been efficient, completing 30 of 39 passes for five touchdowns, with one interception.

The Saints opened +6600 and were actually +8000 after their Week 1 blowout win. Now, New Orleans is all the way into +3000 in BetMGM's Super Bowl odds.

The Buffalo Bills are also trending in the right direction. At 2-0 and off a blowout win at Miami, the Bills moved from +1600 post-Week 1 to the +1100 co-third choice post-Week 2, joined by the Houston Texans.

Needs and Liabilities

Davis pointed to three teams that are semi-concerning:

  • Chiefs, who are No. 2 in ticket count and No. 1 in money.
  • 49ers, No. 3 in tickets and No. 3 in money.
  • Steelers, who don't necessarily look great, but are 2-0 and getting attention at longer odds, opening +8000 and now +4000.

"The Chiefs were well-backed all offseason, along with Pittsburgh. San Fran is always going to be well-supported with our West Coast bettors," Davis said, before getting to arguably BetMGM's largest concern. "The team we are really against is the Lions."

Detroit opened +1200 months ago and sat at +1000 after a Week 1 home win over the Los Angeles Rams. But the Lions stunningly lost at home in Week 2 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and slipped back to the +1200 fifth choice.

However, Detroit remains No. 1 in ticket count and is right behind Kansas City in money.

"The Chiefs and Lions lead the ticket count, and there's a big gap between them and the rest," Davis said.

So who's good for the book in the Super Bowl odds market?

"Teams who are at this stage realistic chances to win, who are really good for us, are the Bills and the Texans," Davis said.

As noted above, those two are the co-third choice at BetMGM. But Buffalo sit just seventh in tickets and eighth in tickets. Houston is ninth in tickets and 10th in money.
